Is the 90-day reporting requirement linked to the Retirement Visa renewal in Thailand?

Hi all just some info about what happened to a friend a few days ago, he found out that the 90 day reporting is NOT related to your VISA renewal at least for Retirement VISA, he tried to do the 90 day report and was rejected and requested to go immigration urgently, where he found out he was late with the 90 day by about 2 months and was fined 2k baht, but since hearing this story I have heard about another that was more late for his 90 day and they cancelled his VISA because of it and he had trouble getting a new one, so 90 day and VISA are not linked, they are separate....

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared an experience regarding the 90-day reporting requirement for the Retirement Visa in Thailand. Despite thinking the 90-day report affected visa renewal, he discovered they are separate; he was fined for being late. Other comments confirmed separate penalties for the 90-day report and that some face only a fine, with explanations on how reporting resets when leaving with a re-entry permit.

If the second person OVERSTAYED then yes, but 90 days, is a 2000 thb fine no matter how late and no other penalties

I was never late for reporting every 90 days and was told I was 155 days over stay. Work that one out.... They was stapling a slip when to report again in my passport. Crazy huh. Somes not doing their job.

Same a TM30 is not linked to a visa. Different systems. Different requirements

If you leave the country using a re-entry permit then your 90 day report resets to 90 days after the date you re-enter. My immigration office always staples a slip in my passport with the next report date and I put that date in my calendar on my phone - simples, but if I've been abroad I work it out for myself.

yep this makes sense if you leave and re-enter, but my friend lives here so he figured when he did his retirement visa it would also reset the 90 day clock, but it doesn't

In Chiang Mai mine was indeed reser when I got a new Visa extension. I went to do my 90 day report and the officer told me I was too early as they had a record of where I was staying when I had applied for my Non-o extension. It seems to differ slightly but as a rule I would take it as 90 days from the day I last entered Thailand.

@Andrew ******
It is set by your entry date not the date your extension is granted.

not in my case. I came in the beginning of June on a non-o based on marriage. In August I went to immi to get my 1st year extension which I got October 1st. My 90 days reporting is due December 29.

It's true that the 2 are not linked.

But no one has their visa cancelled over a missed 90 day report. It's a simple 2000 baht fine next time you're at immigration. Some people NEVER do 90 day reports and just pay 2000 baht every year when they go to get their extension.

I am more than fine of paying a penalty fee of 2000 baht a year and not do the 90 days TM30… But will I get a warning/get in trouble the next year? What will be my excuse?

you are better of reporting on the 90 days or paying an agent to report for you , don’t wait to be fined because they can stop your visa.
Brandon ************

property owner still needs to do TM30. That's a different fine and you can't even get your extension if you don't have a TM30. But TM47 is normally just them sending you to the appropriate counter to pay the fine and file a new TM47 before they'll process your extension.

only reporting on what I am told, the man who had his visa cancelled had been up north for quite a while so it may of been he missed two check-ins, he only lives one Soi up so I can try and get in touch and find out more details if people want?
Brandon ************
@Andrew ******
he either went on overstay or something else happened. Missing 90 day report is irrelevant.

they probably refused to grant his extension (of his previous extension) as a 90 day report is part of the required yearly documentation i believe.

you made it sound worth the money..

What about DTV holders who leave the country without having done a 90 day report? Is there a fine at the airport or do they not care?

I should probably add this person did have a visa agent who was supposed to do the 90 day reports and didn't and the customer did get his money back
Brandon ************
@Steve ******
the airport doesn't care about 90 day reports. If they ever need to go to immigration in the future for anything like an extension, a residence certificate, or something else, they might get fined if the officer notices. But if they just leave every 180 days for 5 years and never go to immigration they'll probably be fine.

nice! The in-person visits to Jomtien are a headache, so they might just skip it and see what happens 😅
