Does renewing a retirement visa reset the 90-day reporting cycle in Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi, quick question, we have recently renewed our retirement visa for another year. Yesterday we did our online 90 reporting and it has been rejected with the comment ‘Already do the 90 days’. I’m assuming the visa renewal starts a new 90 day reporting cycle, is that assumption correct?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you renew your retirement visa in Thailand, it does not reset the 90-day reporting cycle. The 90-day reporting requirement is based on your date of arrival in Thailand, and it only resets when you leave the country and return, assuming you still have valid visa permission. This has been confirmed by several community members who point out that the 90-day clock is tied to your arrival date rather than visa renewal or extensions.

The last couple of times we have done our annual renewal (in Phuket) our passports have come back with 90 day reports stapled in them, even though we have not been in the country for anywhere near 90 days.

I may be missing something here, but I've always been under the assumption that after every yearly visa extension, your first 90 day check in has to be done at your Immigration office. That seems to reset the online 90 day app. It's always worked for me. Same thing with a new passport.

nope that is not the case at all, only the very FIRST yearly extension from a Non-Imm visa starts the 90 day clock and as a rule all the rest run on their own (based on your most recent entry to thailand).

New passport yes, but year extensions no, I had a year extension in Feb, then did a 90 day report at the end of that month online no issue at all got approved the same day (I was too early to do it when I did my extension 😕 )

I bow to your superior knowledge. It's what I was told to do by a member of staff at Samui Immigration & have therefore done since using the 90 day reporting online app. Apologies.

@Diane ******
no apology needed (whether heartfelt or snarky 😉 ) I'm just saying you don't need to do a new in person report after getting a new year extension. Try it next time, worst that can happen is it's rejected 😛

A visa renewal/ extension doesn’t reset the 90 day clock . The 90 day is purely about when you arrived . It resets only after you leave and come back assuming you have the time still on your stamp .

some immigration offices do indeed reset the 90 day report when you do a year extension BUT they all give you a new 90 day report receipt (sometimes they just put it in your passport without telling you)

that’d be nice. Hasn’t happened at CW ever but maybe next year I can ask.

C/W won't do it, 😕 but you can certainly ask

... correct, they did that for me at Chiang Mai last week but I had to ask as they slipped it into my PP plastic cover and didn't tell me. 😉

I did not get a new 90 day report with my extension (CW). In fact they were explicit that it was a separate process due to it being a separate system.

Side note: as an ex-IT type person I can't believe they're at least two separate systems. Separate interfaces into a single system, yes, but not separate systems. That wouldn't make sense.

I know, I know. TiT!

in prachin buri the office computer for the TM 30 doesn't update the computer next door when doing an extension you have to take the printout and it's entered manually

@Dean ********
you are correct (y) the main office at Chaengwattana the 90 day reporting is a separate room and has nothing to do at all with the other sections you go to for extensions,

That you can't believe how their system works doesn't even factor into the equation 🙂

, Kalasin has a separate room for 90 reports. However at Kalason they automatically do a 90 report for you, but they add it on to the day you apply for the extension not onto the day your last report was due. They do the same for online reports, they add it on to the day you apply, not the day it is due.

90 days starts from the day you arrived in Thailand.
