TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to return to Thailand on a 60-day exempt visa after traveling to Laos, following the expiration of their retirement visa. The user has received comments suggesting applying for a re-entry permit to extend their stay before traveling. Another comment notes that there shouldn't be an issue unless they have made multiple border runs previously.

I can't see a problem only problem is if you have done multiple boarder runs before I went through the same way last month no problem

Why not extend your stay another year before going to Laos? You can apply for a re-entry permit and you'll still have a permission to stay for a year. It's well worth 1,900 baht.

Yes. Immigration could give you problems, if you now return without the visa. Just renew.

It makes everything easier. But maybe he won't meet the financial requirements for the extension this time if he's moving back home.
