TLDR : Answer Summary
The proposed plan to stay in Thailand using a combination of a Tr60d visa, subsequent 30-day extensions, and multiple border runs seems feasible but could depend on the discretion of immigration officers. Community feedback suggests obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) before travel, which allows for longer stays by granting 60-day entries with the possibility for a 30-day extension each time. For maximum duration, it’s recommended to follow a pattern of actual tourism, like traveling to neighboring countries instead of frequent short trips.

It's possible with luck, but it's not something you can plan. You can't normally stay that long on tourist visas/exemptions.

Just get the multiple entry tourist visa. Saves you the flight to Malaysia also.

Sounds more like a Maths question

If you were to stay in these surrounding countries for a week, or so, instead of just crossing and coming back, and go to a different country each time, it can work as you'd be following a pattern of an actual tourist instead of trying to stay in Thailand long term on a tourist visa extension. Lots of people base out of Thailand when visiting all the other countries around here. Immigration is pretty smart on all the tricks, and they also profile and stereotype.

Possible but can be up to immigration officer on the day. There isnt anywhere written how long you can legally stay as a tourist. Better of getting METV before hand to avoid any dissapointment

You can get the 30 day extension for each visa exempt or tourist visa entry. The multiple entry tourist visa would be the best bet. Get the 60 days on entry plus the 30 day extension ea h time to minimize how often you need to leave.

not quite. It's not 100% clear what they meant when they wrote 60+30+60+60+60. Since they separated out the 30 day extension the first time, and fail to mention if for the subsequent entries, I assumed the following 60s were additional tourist visas without an extension. If so then they could do (60+30)+(60+30)+(60+30). Even better is the METV which they also do not mention, but I suggested.

Just get the METV

You’ll need to apply for a six months multiple entries tourist visa -METV- at home. Then you’ll get 60 days upon each entry within six months. Each entry can be extended with additional 30 days at your local immigration.

Technically; (60+30) + (60+30) + (60+30) = 270 days.
