TLDR : Answer Summary
A 6-month multiple entry tourist visa (METV) cannot be outright extended; each entry typically allows for a maximum 60-day stay, with a possibility to extend for an additional 30 days. For prolonged stays, individuals often perform a 'border run' to re-enter Thailand just before their visa expires, which may grant another 60 days upon re-entry, potentially allowing for extensions to extend stay up to around 9 months. However, immigration discretion applies, and frequent re-entries may raise scrutiny from immigration officials. Applicants may also consider applying for a new METV from countries like Laos, but repeated applications may face denial.

If you boarder bounce just before your visa expires, you should receive another 60 days on Re entry to Thailand, then go to immigration at the end of that and extend for another 30 days 1900 baht, then at the end of that boarder bounce and on Re entry you should receive another 30 days on Re entry & then go to immigration just before that 30 days finishes and apply for another 30 days 1900 baht
However you need to understand
Thailand does not like you staying long term (living in Thailand/ trying to stay long term ) on a tourist visa process
Entry into the kingdom is always at the discretion of the immigration officer who processes you on arrival to Thailand
You may be refused entry at any time
You could also go to Laos and apply for a second 6 month METV, it may or may not be approved
Some ppl have done it & it is possible, however usually if you you try a third time back to back application it will be denied
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure METVs from the embassy in Laos are only available to Laos nationals, or those with permanent residence in Laos
Thailand has no problem at all with long term tourists who can afford it. If they suspect you are working, gaming the system, or have inadequate funds, you can expect immigration will do their job and have some questions for you
ok, so my friend is a fifo, fly in fly out worker, one month at work in the mines, his month off, every second month he flys into Thailand to enjoy Thailand
He is repeatedly hassled by immigration on arrival to Thailand and told to get a proper/ correct visa π€π€π€
So do they think he is working on his month off π€ or gambling π€π€π€
And many more ppl report issues of being denied entry ect when doing back to back tourist entry
Myself, before Covid I would enter on METV 6 months
6 months Aus / 6 months Thailand
After a few years of this I made a trip visa exemption after only staying Aus for about 3 months
At the end of visa exempt in Thailand I crossed to Laos by land, stayed about 10 days then returned to Thailand by land and was asked by Thai immigration
Where is my visa , told I need a visa, I explained politely that I can enter by land twice with visa and this was my first entry by land
IO walked away to talk to someone else, returned and angrily stated that next time I needed to obtain a visa before entering Thailand
Maybe they didnβt get the memo that long term tourist are welcome π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
itβs far more likely that you didnβt get the memo that immigration officers have a job to perform in behalf of their govt. ππππ In all countries. And part of their duties include ascertaining the purpose of regular βvisitorsβ so one can reasonably expect to be questioned sometimes.
To summarize your note above - in spite of long history, we always got in. Every. Single. Time.
nobody cares about this. Or better, it is very rare that somebody cares about this if you stay inside the country for longer than 180 days. As we speak now, no longstay reired or married to a Thai wife expat is paying any tax in Thailand
I won't join any speculations ππ All I say is, welcome to announcements of Thai officials on plans, changes, alterations, etc , which so often have turned out to be absolutely impossible to implement

if you make a border run with re-entry on the last day of the visa validity, you can get almost 8 months stay permit out of this visa. Adding one more 30 days extension will get you almost 9 months stay permit. However you never were able to "extend a visa". You can only get stay permits extended
when you make a border run or border bounce, you re-enter Thailand. That's a re-entry. Your visa is a multi entry category visa, so you can do as many re-entries as you want, during the visa validity
Each entry you make during the 6 months gives you 60 days. Each one of these entries can be extended one time for 30 days. That's the only option you have.
