TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the necessity of transferring a visa or extension of stay to a new passport if they intend to cancel it and leave Thailand. A community member responds that if the user is within the initial 90 days of the visa, they can show both passports when leaving. However, if they are on an extension of stay, it is required to transfer the extension to the new passport before cancellation at the immigration office.

if you are on the initial 90 days of the VISA <-(the sticker or stamp or eVisa) you can just show both passports when you stamp out

BUT

If you are on an extension of stay (read your stamp in your passport) you need to take BOTH passports to the immigration office where you got the extension, get it moved to the new passport THEN give the required documentation to cancel that extension and then you can leave.

That's how it is supposed to be done and you do that whether you're going to apply for an extension OR cancel the current extension you're on πŸ™‚

what I don't understand is why you don't want to follow the rules of cancelling your extension of stay. IF you are never going to return to Thailand ... Then just go.

Safe travels.

Hi James thank you for your answer. I do wish to follow the rules of cancelling the extension of stay my question was about if that extension should be transferred into the new passport first prior to the canceling process, and so it will according to the advice i just received above from Tod. I then intend to return to Thailand on a different type of visa. Sorry if my writing was not accurate enough as i'm not an english native speaker :)
