Don't make my mistake. I went to do a 30-day extension on a tourist visa at Chaeng Wattana. But I had to get a new US passport since I was out of pages. While the new passport is canceled (with a stamp and hole punches), you still need the official document to transfer your visa to the new passport and before you can extend. I think you can do both at once, but you have to officially transfer it.
TLDR : Answer Summary
When extending a tourist visa in Thailand, it's crucial to transfer your visa to a new passport if you've obtained one. You cannot extend your visa without completing the transfer process first, even if the old passport is stamped and hole-punched as canceled. It is suggested to handle the transfer and extension at the same time at Chaeng Wattana.
