TLDR : Answer Summary
Visitors can usually enter Thailand for a holiday up to 60 days without a visa, depending on their passport country. It is advisable to verify the specific entry requirements by checking with the Thai embassy in your home country.

Perhaps you should learn how to bribe the police before starting a gambling syndicate in Thailand. Not so common now or else spend your time in Thailand as a guest of the "bangkok hilton" commonly known as a prison. No reflection on the loverly hotel known as the real Bangkok Hilton spelt with capital letters.
thanks David, given some of the sharp responses to my question this answer wins my top response award! The prize is speculative and does depend on me taking up your advice, then I’ll present you with the whereabouts of my secret Thai Cocaine stash! Thank you :)

Sandy... I've only placed a bet on 2 horses in my life. After being badgered by my work college back in 1962. I give him one pound to put on a horse called "Jackman". Monday morning he made me swallow my pride when he gave me four pounds and ten shillings in winnings, he then told 200 people who worked in the factory how good a punter he was in jest, and he told the story over and over again. My next experience was about 1976 at the final of the Interdominion Trots in Perth W.A. I put $5 on a horse called "Down and Out" in a supporting race reminiscing my plight at the time. Lowe and behold after a bad crash of several spiders in the race "Down and Out came out 1st place and I got $75 back including my money back. I have never bet on a horse in a race since. I may be regarded as a very successful punter. I got 10 times my money invested back, and I've never had a bet since. 2 horses and 2 winners. Good luck.
Your best bet is to check with the Thai embassy in your home country. What others say about your passport is relevant. Not every country's passport allows for the same privileges in Thailand. In general though, many countries are allowed 60 days visa exemption on arrival.
the 60 day exemption is going to be around a while. Thailand wants to promote tourism as much as possible. You can even get a 30 day extension for a small fee. I paid $200 for a 6 month multiple re-entry tourist visa the Thai embassy in Chicago, but that was 6+ years ago. Good luck!

If Foo Foo is a mainstay of your diet, YES. If Haggis, then NO.

I drove around the coast for a month, eating it once or twice, a day. Each time in a different restaurant.
maybe he'll start an argument when he gets to immigration desk and they ask for his passport. Lol.

Surely some of the other 194 countries in the world besides mine …has a govt website that shows entrance requirements, duration of stay , visa required or not, etc etc. I click on the country I want to visit and all the info is there . Simple
thanks guy, yes, that’s all true and yes, I’ve read books, websites and watched YouTube videos but I thought I’d just ask a question about visas in a group about visas, it’s called a conversation starter. Had no idea I’d get so much abuse back about asking a simple question. I reckon this group just isn’t for me. Take care Sandy
you asked a "simple question" about if you needed a visa, and the answer can only be accurate IF people know what passport you hold. You wasted time arguing and being abusive rather than just saying. FYI just because you were flying from Scotland, does not mean you have a UK passport. Perhaps next time you need advice and people ask you to clarify something, just give them the answer. That will enabled them to give you the correct info.
not the case Lynette, the only reason I got argumentative was that some of the responses were aggressive. Please read all the comments if you wish to pass judgment on this. I’ve replied civilly and friendlily to those who replied civilly and friendlily. Continued some pleasant conversations with those people as well :)
maybe not Lynette, not sure why asking a question, albeit a potentially unnecessary one, would solicit such vitriolic responses! This group just isn’t for me, good luck.

For some people, yes. For others, no. You're a Google search away from the answer.
Humour me here please. Rather than guessing an answer what is your passport country? I suppose I could dig a little and try to guess from your facebook profile, but it’s just generally easier if you state as such.

Ok let’s lock this down. From other responses here it appears you may have a British passport. If that’s the case then you don’t need a visa for a 40 day visit. On arrival you’d get a 60 day visa exempt stamp.
interesting wording of response! ‘What is your passport country’ would have sufficed! I’ll wait for someone else to answer a little more intelligently 😂
friendly tip.. Shoyld be asking any visa information in the future, please include your passport country... You may have received 'friendly advice' but without that information to be fair.. it could be totally wrong advice...
the friendly advice wasn’t wrong, it included links to official websites, some follow on questions, some facts and some pleasant discourse, not difficult!
is this intelligent enough. Your response suggests you would be safer staying at home. Does Scotland issue passports? Will be up there again this year walking Knoydart and. Assynt. Beautiful country. Do I need a visa in 2025?
Stuart is one of the smartest guys on here i.e an expert. Can't get more intelligent than that. Meanwhile everyone will guess what passport you're on so you get correct info.
