TLDR : Answer Summary
When a passport is renewed while overseas, the reentry permit and NON-B visa in the old passport remain valid. To reenter Thailand, it's necessary to present both passports: the old one containing the visa and reentry permit, and the new one. Upon returning to Thailand, one can apply at the immigration office to transfer the validity from the old passport to the new one, while ensuring that the pages with valid permits are not voided.

I've never heard that mentioned before. I assumed your countries passport office merely snipped off a corner of the old passport to make it invalid.

yes or punch holes in it... But if you tell they leav valid pages untouched

I've never had a re-entry permit stamped in before and don't see how snipping the corners off my old passport will have any bearing on it. Thanks and I'll mention it to them when the time comes 🤔

Yes, you can.

You have to enter Thailand with both passports (show the original visa/extension and re-entry permit on the old passport and get a stamp on the new passport).

Once back in Thailand, you go to the immigration office that issued your stamp(s) to apply for transfer.

why do you have to go to your original IO? You left Chiang Rai but now reside in Phuket, really?

, because usually immigration office wouldn’t (or cannot) touch stamps from other division/sub division (means from other province).
