TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a retirement visa in Thailand, the 800,000 Baht must be in an account solely under the applicant's name. Some users suggest that if it is a joint account, you would need to show double the amount (1.6 million Baht) because immigration may only consider 50% of the funds. Many respondents emphasized the importance of consulting the local immigration office, as rules can vary by location.

If 2 people are applying they need separate accounts in their name only and 800,000 in each account

Possibly.. Yes. But only counts as b400k for immigration purposes. Other b400k is presumed to belong to the joint tenant of the bank account. So you’d need b1,600.000 for it to be feasible to immigration

Dave how does it work if I arrive with no visa I have 30 days if I give my passport to a agent how can I get a extension for the next 30 if they still have my passport?
You need to ask your Immigration office. Some allow a joint account, if you keep double the required money in it. Which in the case of "retirement" would be a minimum of 1.6 Million Thai Baht
you can ask immigration in say Hua Hin and ask the same at immigration in Chachoengsao and get two completely different answers, that’s why I suggested to ask at the office the application would be made. I wouldn’t take Facebook opinions seriously.
No it will be 800 each better you have your own bank account

You need to ask your immigration office. Some will not allow it at all. If the office does allow it then you need double the amount because they only consider you as 50% owner so in order for you to show 800,000 the account would need to have 1.6 million baht.
