When opening a bank account to file for retirement visas, should we, as a married couple, open separate accounts or can we deposit 1600k in a single account with both our names. Last names not the same...if that matters

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a retirement visa in Thailand, a married couple can use a joint bank account to meet the required deposit amount, provided they deposit double the required 800,000 THB, since both names are on the account. However, it's advised to check with the local immigration office as their acceptance of joint accounts may vary. Alternatively, one spouse can deposit 800,000 THB in their own account and the other can apply for a trailing spouse extension based on the spouse's retirement visa.

OR if you wish to only have to deposit 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in one of your names only .. the other spouse can get the TRAILING SPOUSE extension of stay based on the other spouse having a one year extension of stay as retired.

I have placed the TOPIC of TRAILING SPOUSE on your post.

CLICK on it and all posts about it will pop up to read.

Basically, you can use a joint account with a deposit of twice the required amount. It is considered your amount is divided by the number of names of a joint bank account. Half of the balance is yours if that account has two names.

But you may want to check with your local immigration office first if they accept joint bank accounts. Not all offices are keen on accept joint accounts.
