Planning to apply for an o visa based on marriage from London Thai Embassy have easily adequate funds and income etc my question is My money and income into bank

is held in a joint account ( I can if necessary prove income by P60's etc ) the Thai website doesn't specify or say it must be in sole name

I'm aware that when I open a Thai bank account it Must be in sole name but this is only for the 90 day part of the 'o' visa any experience at the London e visa application and sensible advice would be gratefully appreciated

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on applying for a Thai O visa based on marriage using funds in a joint bank account, emphasizing adequate income and funds. Although the Thai Embassy website does not specify that funds must be in a sole name, some comments suggest that having a joint account may require showing double the funds, as it is only half-owned. Recommendations include contacting the Thai embassy for advice and highlighting monthly deposits when submitting the application.

If you submit your application using a joint account that has double the minimum capital requirement that should suffice.. and if it doesn't get approved they will surely explain what you need to do to knock your application into shape.. that has to be quicker than waiting days or weeks for someone to reply to an email!

If your income is on the bank account as monthly deposits highlight these on the copy you upload for your submission

Normally if you have a joint account you need to show double the money as the account is only half yours.

If you email the Thai embassy in London. They will advice you. We've found them to be very helpful both by telephone and emails

email first to find the right department to contact. We have just left UK. From our own experience, sole account but proof of earnings should be fine if in joint account. My husband is English and I am Thai. We have spent the last few months organising our relocation. I strongly recommend applying for your visa in UK before you arrive. It will make the rest of your process much easier in Thailand. The Thai banks are getting very strict for new accounts, make sure you have enough funds to secure your new opening. We bank with Krung Thai they are very good

well, they won't pick up the phone like most Thai embassies, but surely will reply to an email inquiry

They used to reply pretty quickly to FB messages. Don't know if that is still the case?

When asking this question correctly worded, Chat GPT gives me the following reply (however related to the Royal Thai Embassy Washington DC):

For a Thailand Non-Immigrant O (Family) visa, financial proof can be in the form of a joint bank account, but proof of relationship (like a marriage certificate or birth certificate) must also be provided, according to the Thai Embassy in Washington D.C.

If submitting a joint account statement, be prepared to show evidence of the relationship between the applicant and the account holder(s).

Details, General Requirement:

A Non-Immigrant O visa for family purposes generally requires proof of sufficient funds to cover the stay in Thailand.

Joint Accounts:

While joint accounts are often accepted, the Thai Embassy may require additional documentation to confirm the relationship between the applicant and the account holder(s).

Proof of Relationship:

This can be a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or other documents that establish the family connection between the applicant and the Thai national.

Minimum Balance:

The minimum balance required may vary, but generally, it's around 400,000 THB (approximately $11,000 USD) or a monthly income of 65,000 THB (approximately $1,800 USD), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

well, it doesn't say "show both names". It clearly says "show your name" on the Thai Embassy London website for your application to the 90-Days Non-Imm-O Family Visa

Thankyou for that it states it has to show my name and of course it will show my name but nowhere disbars another and I've had no joy trying to phone the Embassy for advice
