I'm from the USA and currently in Thailand. If i fly to Laos or Vietnam and come back, do I get 30 days or is it 45 days now?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are a U.S. citizen and you leave Thailand to go to Laos or Vietnam, upon re-entry you will receive a 45-day visa exemption. This applies regardless of whether you fly back or cross the border by land. The visa exemption can be extended for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office. If you hold a current valid stamp when you leave Thailand, that stamp will be nullified upon your exit, and the 45-day exemption will be issued when you return.

I have kinda the same question except I want to go to vietnam for a week or so. Currently I'm on 60 day tourist visa but also got 30 day extention. Stamped until Nov 28 now. Want go Vietnam end of Oct and then back to Thailand. What will they stamp when I get back? Or is current stamp until Nov 28 still good? Thanks
so if you come in with a visa exempt entry then extend for 30 days....then leave the country and come back in on another 45 day visa exemption...can you also get another 30 days extended onto that one?
yes. You’ll get away with doing such one or two times perhaps. At some point they’ll question your reasons for trying to stay long term in Thailand without a relevant visa.

I mean they’ll question you on entry. Never heard of an instance where they’ll question an extension.
all borders via land or air (or sea) will stamp for 45 days on a visa exempt. The only difference is that you are only allowed two land border entries in a calendar year.
I am aware of the change, just wanted to know that it is being applied as expected, you know the gap there is sometimes between the law and practical application.
