Sirs: I will arrive in Thailand from USA applying for TOURIST VISA ON ARRIVAL with a departure time of 42 days later in January 2024 (I'll have a return ticket) However i will leave Thailand on Day 13 from my arrival Date in Thailand to a trip in Saigon. I WILL have a Departure Date and Return Ticket to Thailand 7 days before i leave on DAY 40 (2 days before Original Visa on Arrival Expires to travel home). Can I do this and return and just apply for Another 15 day Tourist Visa On Arrival to finish up my time in Thailand? Hate to have a round trip ticket from USA and cannot get back into Thailand. Thank You for your attention and help!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about applying for a Tourist Visa On Arrival after leaving Thailand for Vietnam. Community responses clarify that as a US passport holder, the user will receive a 30-day visa exemption upon arrival in Thailand and will not need a visa to return after visiting Vietnam, as long as they maintain proof of onward travel.

What Brandon said and Faron reiterated in simple terms. 👍

The answer is to do nothing other than have your onward flight proof. You will be granted 30 day visa exemptions both times.

Go to thaievisa.go.th and read about the options.

Answer 3 questions, and the best solution will be presented to you.

May also be a idea to visit the website of the Thai Embassy in you country to get further information.

First of all you cannot apply for visa on arrival as that's only for a few countries who have to apply for and pay for a visa when you arrive.

If you have a US passport you'll receive visa exempt which means no visa at all.

Thailand won't care about your flights but keep proof of your flight to Vietnam with you when you go to check-in to your flight to Thailand. Your airline may require you to show proof that you're leaving Thailand within 30 days since you don't have a visa.

make sure you have an E-Visa to Vietnam because you will need it to enter. I went almost a year ago. It will cost you more if you don't get it earlier. There is no Visa on arrival in Vietnam for the time being I think.
