I am planing to fly into Bangkok and fly out from bangkok 7 weeks later.I am planing on getting a 60 day single entry tourist visa. But I want to keep my options open and might decide to travel overland to visit Laos perhaps around 4 weeks in to my trip. When I re enter Thailand would I get a 30 day visa exemption stamp? I am British.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen planning to enter Thailand with a 60-day single entry tourist visa might consider entering the country under the 30-day visa exemption option, particularly if planning to visit Laos during the trip. Upon re-entering Thailand from Laos, the traveler can expect to receive an additional 30-day visa exemption stamp.
If you're NOT gonna be here for the 60 days you get on the tourist visa (as you say you might go to Lao 4 weeks after arriving here, just come here without any visa and enter on a free 30 day visa exempt entry and know you can extend that for 30 more days once for 1900baht at the immigration office if you needed to .
As far as you re-entering thailand if you do go to lao, you will get another 30 day entry stamp when you come back in.
