TLDR : Answer Summary
When you leave Thailand to visit Laos and return, you will receive a new 30-day visa exemption stamp if you are from a visa-exempt country. This applies even if you originally entered Thailand on a tourist visa. However, keep in mind that entering Thailand through a land border without a visa is limited to twice per calendar year. Border runs are a common practice, and many travelers confirm that they successfully received a new 30-day stamp upon re-entry.

Yes it does mate, look at the stamps on your passport, it's basically the date you have to depart by.

Also yes, I just made my Lao border run on the 24th. My 30 day extension was valid until the 28th, but my new 30 day stamp began on the 24th and is valid until March 24th. No questions asked, easy.

Did you need to bring any documents to the Laos border apart from your passport?

no only passport. You get a TM 6 to fill in when u enter Thailand again. They might ask for a flight ticket out of the country but they did not ask me or any other for it. If they ask, you can probably just book a bus ticket on spot

There's no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa.

If you leave Thailand and return without a Thai visa, you'll receive a 30 day visa exempt stamp as long as you're from a visa exempt eligible country.

You can only enter Thailand 2 times per calendar year at a land border without a visa.
