I have a US passport with a 60 day max visit. When I return from Laos do I need a new visa to come back into Thailand?

How long will they let me stay?

How can I extend that?

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a US passport holder, you can enter Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa if entering by land. If you're coming back from Laos, you will need to obtain a new visa. You can purchase a tourist visa at the Thai consulate in Vientiane, which will allow a 60-day stay. You can extend a 30-day visa exemption once for an additional fee at an immigration office.

With a US passport you can enter thailand on what's called a 30 day visa exempt entry by land TWO times in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31)

You can extend a 30 day visa exempt entry one time at the immigration office for 1900baht

Why not BUY a tourist visa from the thai consulate in Vientiane Lao before you come back to thailand? You get stamped in for 60 days on that when you enter.

a US passport gets you in to thailand for 30 days without a visa, NOT 60.
