Help! I currently have a UK 45 days visa exemption. If I left Thailand to go to Malaysia would I be allowed to come back in before my 45 days end?
Or would I need to wait until the 45 days is up to come in again? I have no idea on the conditions! Thank you ð

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you leave Thailand to visit Malaysia, you will be allowed to re-enter Thailand and will receive a new 45-day visa exemption stamp. It's important to note that exiting Thailand cancels your current entry stamp. You can receive two visa-exempt entries by land per calendar year, but there is no limit to the number of air entries. To avoid issues with immigration, it's advised to consider flying back into Thailand if you've used your land entries for the year.
nope you can't get a re-entry on a visa exempt entry. You FLEW in the first time I would wager so that doesn't count against the TWO land entries you can make in a year. So just go to Malaysia, and when you come back you'll get a new 45 day entry stamp.

We never heard someone could successfully or would really try to get a re-entry permit on visa-exempt entry.

the limit of two times on visa-exempt entries by land is set by calendar year. your count will be back to two as of starting 2023.
And technically no limit on entering Thailand by air.
because if I am only allowed in twice a year (I am currently on my 2nd exemption this year as my first was in august) I want to come back for new year. So how else would I come back if I cannot re-enter the country without it
what you're not gonna do is LIVE here on back-2-back free entry stamps ð
As people pointed out you can get two visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year (that's Jan 1st to Dec 31) then the count "resets" and you can get two more entries by land next year.
There is technically no limit to the number of them you can get by air, BUT as I said at some point you're gonna get pulled aside and asked WTH you're doing living here on free stamps and be 'encouraged' to get a real visa to stay here
the rule is written specifically with an end date so that's what we're going with. Right now the rule said from Oct 1st to Mar 31st the visa exempt entry went from 30 to 45 days.
At this time there is no indication of anything other than exactly how the rule was written.
and I can do this as many times as I like? As it says for the UK citizens only twice per year but that was before they put it up to 45days. No update on it
that is not correct, you're confusing types of ENTRY
You get in on a 45 day visa exempt entry stamp by air OR land, and border running is just where you go out and back in to get a NEW exempt entry stamp
She's on a 45 day stamp now, she can extend that by 30 days at the immigration office, then she can exit/re-enter the country to get a new 45 day visa exempt entry and get a 30 day extension on that.
a border run is where you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and then stamp back IN to thailand to get another free entry stamp.
thank you this is really helpful. Also, once I get my 30 day visa extension that gives me by extension from 23rd December - 22nd January. Do you know if this would count as a visa exemption for the year or would I be able to go out and come back in a further 2 times?
you can officially do 2 per year by land and unlimited by air but at some point the immigration officer is going to question what you are up to. It's unlikely they'd do this the first time or perhaps even the second time. But you're probably pushing your luck after that
nope you can't do it as many times as you like the limit of bouncing out and back by land for free stamps is TWO per calendar year (Jan 1 to Dec 31) just like it was when the stamps were 30 days.
correct. They will ask you for your outbound flight details, IF they believe you are living here on the incorrect Visa. Immigration will then force you to buy an outbound flight, before letting you enter.
