If I apply for a Retirement Visa in Thailand, will I lose the remaining days on my current Non-O visa?

Quick question :

If you apply for a Retirement Visa do you forfeit any days remaining on your current visa ? In other words I have 19 days left on my current Non O visa but want to apply now for the retirement visa now for personal reasons so will I lose those 19 days ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Retirement Visa in Thailand, you will not lose the remaining days on your current Non-O visa. You can apply for the Retirement Visa up to 45 days before your current visa expires, and the extension will be valid until the new expiration date, not affecting the days left on your original visa.

Yes, in-country visa applications take effect immediately so you'll 'lose' any days you may still have left on your current visa.

I assume you are already on a Non-O 90 day retirement visa so you will be applying for the one year extension which is not a new visa. You will not lose any days.

And indeed what Jan says, my extension is already 7 years 8th of january till 8th of january. It only changes e.g. should your pasport is only valid for 8 months or so.

It is 90 days later as your entry stamp. I came in 11 oktober, so could stay until 8 january. In december I made my first yearextension and got it from 8 january till 8 january following year. So nothing to do with dates on the original visa, besides you have to come in before expiring date of the visa ofcourse.

It's valid up to the expired date of your non-0 stamp. For example your non- 0 stamp from airport/ land border/ visa changing section at immigration is good until 15 Nov 2024 and your first retirement based on that non-o will be up to 15 Nov 2025

You can apply from 45 days before it expires and will not lose any days. Extension is always related to the expiry date and not the date you apply.

Are you really on a 90 day Non-O visa? Or, are you on a 1 year extension of stay?

I am on a marriage Non O visa which requires me to leave the country every 90 days hence I want to transfer to a Retirement visa (I qualify) but I was concerned would I lose any of my existing visa days on my current visa

I think it has been answered by other members in this post but thank you for your reply

You can't switch reasons like that. You are already on a non-O visa, so you cannot apply for a different non-O visa. If you want to switch to retirement you would have to either leave and return without using your visa (might not be possible while your multiple entry visa is still active) or you would need to apply for the 1-year extension based on marriage and then next year when you are due for an extension you could apply based on retirement instead. But you can't switch from non-O marriage to non-O retirement, and you cannot switch from non-O marriage to extension based on retirement. You can only switch from one extension to a different extension.

I believe you are correct in the fact I will have to start the process from scratch, my terminology of switching is misguilding but I can apply for a retirement visa with the sufficient funds been in my bank for nearly a year now and have residence in Thailand and over the age of 55
