So here I am now, on my tourist visa and getting ready to apply for the non immigrant O based on retirement (Canadian, so I have an easy out on the $65K income). Do I need to have been here for a certain time before applying for the non Immigrant O (I seem to have forgotten this and cannot find a reference to this point). Thanks all!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a tourist visa and is preparing to apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa based on retirement. They inquired about whether there is a required duration of stay in Thailand before they can apply for this visa. Comments indicate that it is typically necessary to have fewer than 30 days left on the current visa but more than 15 days for consideration. Different locations may allow applications to be submitted up to 45 days prior to the visa expiry.

perfect. So for $50 and 1900 baht, you don’t need much more than that if 🇨🇦.

Met another canadian with the 10 year O-X visa. Also interesting, but you have to bring the 3M in initially.

Generally you need less than 30 days on your current stamp but more than 15 as there's an under consideration period. As

Most offices will allow you to apply for an extension 30 days prior. Some like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Buri Ram allow 45 days prior.

might be a good idea to go to your local office and ask for the handout of exactly what you’d need for the non O and extension. They can tell you their policy on how long beforehand you can apply.
