What should I expect when re-entering Thailand with a single entry tourist visa?

Back in via Chiang Mai airport today. Was a bit concerned as i have been in Thailand three months on a single entry tourist visa (60 days plus 30 days extension) and was only out of the country for two nights - hoping to get a visa exemption for 30 days when i returned. Had a return flight booked to the UK for mid October, confirmed hotel booking and 25,000 bht cash with me just in case.

Passed immigration without any questions being asked. The staff seemed more concerned with the operation of the new biometrics system. Even had three officers walking around advising people how to use the fingerprint scanner and sorting out the occasional malfunction. Chiang Mai seems to be 'user friendly' at the moment.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat recently returned to Thailand through Chiang Mai airport after spending three months on a single entry tourist visa. They were concerned about their re-entry after being out of the country for just two nights, hoping for a 30-day visa exemption. Upon their return, they passed immigration without any issues, despite the new biometric system being in operation. Some commenters shared their experiences, noting that the treatment by immigration officers can vary.

I came back to Chiang Mai from Burma all paperwork in order and no infringements but still got a 2 hour interview and warning.

I think it just depends on the officer.

Glad it went well.

yes you’re right I stay in Thailand every winter because I have retired in England.

I am a genuine tourist.

I’ve never done a visa run.I have no overstays they just didn’t like the number of stamps in my passport.

I’m only saying this as a heads up to other people.
