Great news! It is confirmed that holders of a Canadian passport extending their retirement visa for another year only need to provide proof of a minimum of 65 000 Baht being deposited into their bank account for a period of at least one year.

I am considering doing the process myself. My current visa expires April 18th. How much time does the immigration normally need to process the extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Holders of a Canadian passport extending their retirement visa only need to show proof of 65,000 Baht deposited for at least one year. The immigration process typically takes around 20 minutes if all documents are in order. However, the Canadian Embassy's Income Affidavit can substitute for bank documentation, but it's important to note that certain locations may have specific requirements.

Gary David Israel the order stating the affidavits of income are good for 6 months is STILL in effect.

Keep in mind (at least in Bangkok) IF your consulate still offers the affidavit of income from abroad notary you MUST use that letter and CANNOT use 65K baht being deposited into a thai bank account from abroad for 12 months as proof. People have been denied extensions because their consulate still offers the affidavit and they didn't have it even thought they did have proof of transferring in the money.

Remember Chiang Mai will want to see documentation OTHER than your embassy letter (proof of pension, bank account etc).

Even better news. As the Canadian Embassy is still offering the Income Affidavit, you can use that in stead of showing bank books. Normally it take about 20 minutes if you have all the correct documents. And as a side note, it is always nice to tell where in Thailand you are.

I do not know if this drives people crazy, for me they should be mad at their embassies by stopping this service and feeling happy and excited of Thai Immigration as they are doing every thing they can to give this people a possibility to stay inside Thailand.
