Do I need to go to the immigration office in person if I hire a visa agent to do my retirement visa renewal? How long it use to take if need?

More than likely you will have to go if it's the first time. Even if you use an agent.

I did extension in Jomtien with an agent once. Had to go with her inside immigration, but she by-passed all queues and everything went quite fast.

Depends on the agent you use. Some just push paper and you still have to go. Some are full service and do it all for you.
