When your work permit is cancelled how long do you have to leave the country to renew your visa? I have heard 2 weeks or 5 days.

Thanks,

Sam

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your work permit is cancelled, the timeframe for leaving Thailand to renew your visa can vary. If you are on a valid visa, you can stay until the end of your admitted stay date. However, if you have an Extension of Stay stamp, you must cancel it on the same day your work permit is cancelled and either leave the country or apply for a new extension. If your new extension application is not approved, you will generally receive a 7-day grace period to leave the country.

if on visa - until visa finished - if on extension - 7 days

it wasn't transferable to anything, :/ You got a non-company specific Non-B by using documentation from one company and you used documentation from another company to get the extension.

It doesn't work like that for everyone. I would say you just lucked out (y) BUT at least it worked :)

, yep, you're right, no company is listed,

sometimes they are company specific and sometimes they're not.

Here's one from yesterday that IS and that means IF the holder decides to stop working with that company before they get an extension NO other company can provide the documentation for them to get an extension. They have to leave and get a new Non-B.

Right so you didn't do anything conversion-wise, you pulled a 90 day single entry Non-B visa that stamps you in for 90 days and can't be canceled by the company if you stop working for them because it's a visa (not an extension). So you'd have gotten the full 90 days from it even if you didnt' find new work.

AND because evidently the visa you got didn't have a company name listed on it, when you switched jobs all you did was use their paperwork to get your FIRST extension of stay off it

I got the visa from loas.. a month later I move to a different school.. after I had the visa 90 days.. my new school helped me to extend it a further 9 months.. the visa had no employers name on it.. so I guess was transferable

Paul Burns You worked at school AA with a valid Visa, you stopped working before the end date of that Visa. You start working at school BB and when Visa (Admitted to Stay period) ended you applied for an Extension of Stay. There is no transfers of Extensions of Stay given with papers from school AA into another Extension with papers from school BB in your story.

, and did you get a 90 day Non B visa inside thailand at the immigration office or go outside of thailand to a thai consulate to get it?

As a rule, VISAS are company specific (or at least more and more thai consulates and immigration offices are writing the name of the company on the visa) meaning IF you don't get an extension with that company you have to start all over.

Tod Daniels .. how would you explain then that. I was granted a B visa after I submitted documents given to me by a school.. before the visa was extended I moved to a different school who then provided me with documentation which then allowed me to extend it another 9 months.. this is what happened to me. And this is what I called transferring a visa.. am I wrong then ?

Yes.. what you said Tod is what I mean.. I called it a transfer.. You explained it in more detail.. the point I was getting at. Was that there was no need to go abroad to a Thai Embassy or consulate to apply for a new B visa.. the current B visa can be used for the second company via the immigration office.. just give them all the paperwork they need.. so you don't need a new visa at all.. just transfer the rights of the existing one.. we can word it in many different ways.. but I think we are meaning the same thing.

, it's something pretty rare that's for sure. Mostly because people leave jobs on bad terms NOT on good ones ;)

Paul Burn, okay, you cannot transfer an VISA or an extension of stay to another company, period, end of story.

You CAN cancel your current extension of stay for company xxx and then immediately (as in while you're still at the immigration office) apply for a brand new extnsion of stay for company yyy IF you have all the documentation ready right then to do it.

I have never seen a person working for a normal company actually be able to coordinate between the company they are leaving and the company they are going to so that they can have all the documentation ready to pull it off.

The only instance I know of was someone on extensions of stays from a BOI company and who was moving to another BOI company. They used the Cham Churi Square One Stop Service Center and were able to pull it off in one day.

Cancel and apply for NEW one is not a transfer, at least for me as a non NES person. Same as leave Thailand and apply for NEW visa is not renew your visa or apply for Extension of Stay is not extend your Visa.

an Extension of Stay requires documents of share holders, company papers, tax and sso payments of you and staff. You can not transfer that to other company. You can cancel your current Extension and apply with all papers from new employer on the same day.

a Visa is NOT an Extension of Stay. Total different items with total different requirements and regulations. They not even look the same, I posted earlier a picture of an Extension of Stay. Here a example of a Visa, just look if you can find a difference:

, NO, an Extension of Stay is based on work and with the papers provided by your Employer and can NOT be transferred to another company.

If you have already extended your B visa for the year.. then I would have thought that you would just get another job and they will help you to get a new work permit.. the visa is transferable to another school.. just another option

Zero. If the reason for your Extension of Stay stops, it stops on that day. There is no grace period.

Difference between Visa and Extension of Stay. With a Visa (sticker from Embassy/Consulate) you visit the border every 90 days. Extension of Stay a stamp from Immigration with the first three words Extension of Stay and you visit Immigration every 90 days. If you not sure what you have just open your passport and check. Example stamp of Extension of Stay:

. My company is saying they will cancel the visa on their system and suggested me to just leave the country on the same day. They didn't even tell me to visit immigration office to cancel the visa. It's confusing.

But if you company cancel your work permit, the same day YOU have to cancel your Extension of Stay at local Immigration and leave the country. You can apply for a new Extension of Stay if you meet any of the requirements, if not you get an application not approved stamp and 7 days to leave the country.

If you have a valid Visa you can stay till your last day of Admitted to Stay date, if you have a stamp Extension of Stay from local Immigration you have to cancel that the same day as your Work Permit and leave the country or apply for a new Extension. If application is not approved you will get 7 days to leave the country.
