TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to stay in Thailand for 7 days after your work permit expires. You can apply for an extension at the immigration office. If your application is accepted or if you cancel your work permit, you may receive a stamp allowing you 7 days to leave. It is advisable to get a letter from your employer confirming your end of employment to facilitate the cancellation of your work permit and extension.
I got 20 days stamped after cancelling my wp & extension. I heard others got 7, and yet others get nothing but can apply for an extension which is then denied, to also get 7. It depends on the company you work for which you get.
Maybe my friend who got 7 got that 'extension denied' thing from his employer just from good employership. Don't exactly know the status of it. He's now on his way out to get a tourist visa.
do you know if there are cases where you get 7 days bonus by default upon cancelling WP & work based extension? Or is 7 days only possible in the shape of a denied extension?
makes sense. Then my friend received it from his employer. If I would employ and then fire people I would also find it a bit rough to require them to leave in the evening of their last official working day.
he can't get the 7 days stamp from his employer, it's not possible. Normally what people do is get a letter from their employer stating their last day of work and use that to cancel their work permit and permission to stay in advance
You can try applying for an extension. If they accept your application and reject it they will give you stamp allowing you 7 days to leave the country. You should also cancel your work permit and your extension of stay. People usually get a letter from their employer stating when they will stop work and use that to cancel in advance
