What happens if my passport expires before my Thai visa expires, particularly with a retirement visa?
I'm getting ready to renew my visa "O" retirement and I realized my passport expires next May. I will do it in the first week so there is not enough time to renew it safely. What I'm told but need confirmation is they will short stamp it. So instead of a full year it will expire in May. Can anyone confirm this?

There are some countries which give Alien card or resident card separately to the foreigners, the card validity goes longer than the passport validity. But when they put the stamp on passport, the validity shall be less than passport validity.

OPRobert Clark when I inquired I was told I have to send by mail and allow 5 weeks. I would be over. It's too close. They do not allow you to go there and hand it to them or I'd do it tomorrow

OPWell that's fine if I get just 10 months I have plenty of time. I knew it was expiring next year and just didn't put 2+2 together. And as I was starting to put my docs together it came up. What's funny is if anyone uses Claude AI, it's putting my whole package together. It's even filled in my TM 7 form, and as I gave it more paperwork "it" ( Claude AI ) noticed it and said I'll only get the extension until my expiration date.

Allan Rawai I am afraid that isn't true this is one thing that all offices will deal with in the same way. They will give an extension up until the date the passport expires.

Andy Oswald i agree on that actual comment, i should perhaps be clearer, it does apply on many things. I dont really have a problem with phuket immigration cos my wife phones them up and asks whats required this year. The old staff recognizes me and normally becones me over.
