TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew your marriage visa (M Visa) in Thailand, it is not mandatory to have at least 6 months remaining on your passport. However, it's advisable to renew your passport before seeking an extension. The immigration office will only grant an extension valid until the expiration date of your passport. This means if you attempt to renew with a passport expiring in April, your visa will only be extended to that date, potentially leading to complications.

no but they will renew the visa only until the day before the expiration date on your passport so you will get a visa until april
you will get an extension to the end of your passport validity. Thats what I just had to do as I couldn't get my passport renewed before extension expiry.

If its a UK passport, took us about 5 weeks

Just went through this situation. Immigration will only provide extension through the validity of your passport. My advice is to renew your passport first

If it's UK, I just renewed mine in August - 3 week turnaround (

No... you don’t need to but it always best to have a passport I think that allows you have the fulll time your entitled to . That way it avoids complications .

You need to get a new passport BEFORE you go to get a new yearly extension in Dec..
Otherwise all you'll get is an extension good until April
When you get new yearly extensions you need as much time left on your passport as the extension is valid for (a year) other wise you only get it for as long as your passport is valid for...
