What options do my parents have to board a flight to Thailand without proof of onward travel given their 32-day stay?

My parents just bought tickets for 32 days in Thailand. I know what to do about it once they get here. I'm not worried about HERE. *I need to know if/how they can board the plane in USA without showing they will leave the country within 30 days.* Last time that I tried boarding in USA without a printed ticket leaving, they almost wouldn't let me board the plane. I had to show my work contract to convince them and even then, it took me like an hour to check in and verify. They were real sticklers that you have proof of leaving within 30 days. IF we leave the country, rather than extending their tourist visas, we will do so by land. So there's really no option of buying plane tickets just to prove they're leaving! Advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The main concern is how the user's parents can board their flight to Thailand for a 32-day stay without having proof of leaving within 30 days. The conversation suggests various options: obtaining a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) before leaving the USA, which allows for a longer stay without issues; purchasing a refundable onward ticket to a neighboring country to use as proof for the airline; or extending their stay in Thailand through immigration after their arrival. Advice from users supports getting either a visa in advance or a ticket that can be canceled to avoid complications.

I think all the options has been discussed. It is now to

to decide the best option: Single Entry Tourist Visa before departure, making a trip to a neighbor country during their holiday or buying another ticket and an Extension of Stay. Thanks all for the contributions.

Get an onward ticket that departs within the 30 days use it as proof of exit then extend the 30 stamp at immigration as usual 1900baht each and thats that. You can use bestonwardticket.com

Sounds like they only will arrive with the 30 day free exempt Visa. if they stay longer they will need to apply and pay for an extension , can do this when in Thailand. or if not pay fine when leaving .( even for just 2 days) - Maybe do a short trip to Cambodia ( Phnom Pehn or Siem Reap/Ankor Wat) for a few days, this will give them another 30 days on return if fly or 15 days overland. also if you have a return ticket to/from the USA there should be no problem.

There is no 15 day overland Visa Exempt Entry since31 December 2016.

Okay, The airline company is reliable for their passengers if they fly without a Visa and do not have a return flight within the time given on arrival. So your parents willing to come over for 32 days, that is longer than the 30 day Visa Exempt entry so the airline company can refuse boarding. To have a hassle free start of their holiday the best thing is to get the Single Entry Tourist Visa, this Visa is not that expensive and it solves all your thoughts. They can fly without problems and have an legal stay inside Thailand during the whole time.

Just buy a departing ticket to a neighboring country that has 24hr free refund, print the itinerary, and then cancel the ticket.

If “just bought tickets” means less than 24 hours ago, airline should allow you to cancel. Then rebook for 30 days.

Then better get there visas.

They will need to pay either way. Might as well get the visa. If they stay 32 days they will be on overstay without the visa.

Let them apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa at a Thai Consulate or Embassy in the US before they make their way to Thailand, which gives them 60 days of stay on entry and the airline company will have no problem.

For the sake of $30 each they would avoid all the hassle that you already know they will get when boarding the plane. Either get a tourist visa before they set off, or buy a cheap one way ticket out of Thailand before 30 days after they arrive that they can throw away.

No, the Visa Exempt Entry is free but only 30 days, so they need an Extension of Stay which cost 1.900 Thb. The SETV cost about 1.000 Thb, it is even cheaper.

(the 30 days would be free)

But then they have to pay for something that would otherwise be free, right?
