Hey, just wanted to double check the process for transferring Thai visa (Ed) from an old passport to a new one. I take both my passports to immigration (in my case CM) and they can transfer? I also read I need to get a form from my countries (UK) consulate first and bring this with me to immigration. But that might be outdated information. Oh and will it cost me anything? Not that I can avoid it, but good to know in advance. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

TLDR : Answer Summary
To transfer your Thai education (Ed) visa from an old passport to a new one, you should bring both passports to the immigration office, along with a letter from your consulate confirming the new passport's issuance. It's important to note that if you have an extension of stay, transferring is possible; otherwise, you must carry both passports without a formal transfer. The process typically doesn't incur a fee. Always confirm with your local immigration office for any specific requirements or updates.
I did it last week in Petchabun and they copied just about every page. These copies plus both passports and letter from your embassy stating that the new passport replace the old one. The IO then stamped into the new passport a record of my previous visas - non imm B to non imm o and extension to stay and reentry permiy. Be advised to travel with both passports when leaving the country for the first time after the change.
As George Marinkovich says. In case of you have extension of stay, and if your new passport was issued in Thailand, you need to bring the letter from your consulate you had received along with your new passport, if your new passport was issued in your country and you already used it to enter Thailand, you don't need the letter from your consulate.
If you really have an ED VISA rather than an "extension of stay" for purpose of education then you can't transfer the visa from your old to your new passport. You just need to use both passports, the new for everything except for your visa, the old only to show your visa.
If you have an extension of stay stamp you can get your local immigration office to do the transfer from your old to your new passport. They will probably want to see the letter you get from your country's consulate and the service should be done for free.
