Hi,

We just made a covid visa for my husband and I am just wondering what to do with the visa on the old passport if we are to renew a passport? The agent told me it cost 1000baht for them to transfer to the new one🤦🏻‍♀️

However, in Indonesia we just used both of the passports until we got a new extension on the new one.

Thank you for your help🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing a passport containing a Thai visa, you typically need to bring both the old and new passports to immigration, along with a letter from your embassy stating the change of passport numbers. This transfer process is usually free at immigration. However, be prepared for potential wait times at the immigration office.

Does this mean we have to wait 3+ hours at the immigration?🥲🥲🥵 Or does this go relatively quick not like making an extension? And can we do it at any immigration ?

in theory you should be able to do at any immigration, but in practice if you try elsewhere they may refuse so best to use the one you got the stamp from. Most of the busier offices have different queues or counters for different purposes. Getting stamps changed should only take a few minutes.

You should have had a letter from your embassy with the new passport stating you have changed passport number abc123 to xyz789. Take that and both passports to immigration and get the relevant stamps moved over. It’s free to do so.
