Can I travel domestically in Thailand with an invalid passport and a new passport without stamps while waiting for my visa extension?

Good morning everyone ! Question about passport renewal and VISA.

I have to renew my passport at my Embassy. Then, I will have to do the procedure to get a new extension for my non-immigrant F VISA (now running until June 2022) to be put on my new passport.

The procedure to get the official documents from my employer that allows me to apply at immigration usually takes 2 months.

My question is : during those two (long!) months, what is my situation : can I travel domestically with my stamped but invalid passport and my new passport without stamps on it?

I hope that my question is clear, thank you very much and have a good day !

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about traveling domestically in Thailand while waiting for a new passport and visa extension. Comments indicate that it's permissible to travel with an invalid passport during this period. It's recommended to renew the passport and promptly transfer visa stamps to the new passport. A Thai driver's license can also be used for identification during domestic travel.

I think you're confusing a few things.

Once you renew your passport you GO and get the stamps transferred pretty quickly after that. You can't wait another 6 months before you go do it so it coincides with your next extension date.

Renew the passport, GO get the stamps moved (you don't need anything from your employer to do that) and then just use the new passport when you go for your extension.

you are right I think I am confusing it all and your answer clarifies my confusion. I rephrase it so that I am sure that I get it well : 1. I renew my passport 2. I IMMEDIATELY go back to immigration in order to get the stamp transferred on my new passport until June 2022 3. I get the papers done by my employer to get my VISA extended again, as I could only get my previous extension to last until June 2022 because of my passport expiration date. I will therefore get one additional year of extension once I go to immigration again with the new papers. Am I right? ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you so much.

correct (y)

1 - renew the passport

2 - take the old/new passports with the letter your embassy will give you stating you got a new passport to the immigration office and get the stamps/extension transferred to the new passport

3 - When it's time to get your extension, get your documentation together and go apply when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp (so May 2022 sometime) ๐Ÿ™‚

You can travel domestically with an invalid passport while you're waiting for a new passport to arrive. If you have a Thai drivers license, you can use that as well to check into hotels.
