Do I need to visit immigration before leaving Thailand with a DTV visa?

Hello everyone,

I got my DTV visa in HCM in 7 days.

I still have two questions:

If I want to leave the country, do I need to go to immigration first?

My passport expires in 3 years — do you know what I should do, since my 5-year DTV is linked to my passport?

Thanks for all your advices

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user received their DTV visa in HCM in 7 days and has questions about leaving Thailand and handling their expiring passport. The community responded that no notification is needed before leaving the country and suggested carrying both the old and new passports if the current one expires. It's recommended to print out the DTV visa email as proof and to check with Thai authorities regarding regulations about the visa linked to an expiring passport.

My passport also expires during the 5-year validity of my DTV, and that's noted (in Thai) on the visa. I printed it out as

rightly suggests. Since regulations seem to be fluid with this visa, I will check with the Thai government before I renew my passport.

are you saying you applied without leaving Thailand, were accepted and now you have to go to HCMC to pick up your visa? What nationality?

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

And carry both your Old Passport and new one after your current Passport expires.

1 no you can come and go as freely as you want.

2. Just carry your old passport/visa with you.

You can transfer it to a new passport but it’s not really worth the trouble for 2 years

To transfer a Thai visa to a new passport, you'll need to visit a Thai immigration office with both your old and new passports, along with a copy of the visa and other required documents. The process typically involves having the immigration officer transfer the visa stamp or sticker to your new passport.

you can't transfer a visa, you can however transfer an extension.

given he will neither have a visa stamp or sticker they won't do anything. He just needs to carry both passports for the duration of the visa

what happens if they loose there old passport?
John **********
@Jef *******
that would be careless. I've no idea, I guess they would have to approach the consulate that issued the visa to see if they would reissue it with a new passport number

@John *********
careless is not impossible especially when you are carting 2 passports around …. Double the risk of loosing it…. That’s why I said my comments of getting it changed over 🫡🫡🫡

@Jef *******
but you can't. Immigration inside Thailand won't touch it.

you're missing the point, read what you posted again "visa information from old passport to new passport". He has no visa information in his old passport, and they don't transfer entry stamps. I've just had my information transferred to a new passport but I am on an extension based on retirement with years of physical stamps in my passport. The transferred information takes up a page.
