How do I apply for a visa in Thailand with a zero-hour contract and freelance income from abroad?

Asking for some help in how to apply with 2 sources of income from outside of Thailand. I work for a UK based company remotely - this is a zero hour/casual worker contract. However, I have worked for this company since 2023 and the work is ongoing. I can show this through payslips, teaching timetables, etc. I also work on an online teaching platform as a freelance teacher - I don't earn very much, but it shows I have worked with them for the past 2 years with a small top up income. As for savings, I have 20,000 pounds in a UK bank account, which has been there for around 2-3 month. I am a bit worried that my contract is zero hour and casual worker contract - do you think this will be an issue? For my freelance teaching work - does it matter that I don't earn very much from this? Any help would be great. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on applying for a visa in Thailand while having two income sources from the UK: a zero-hour contract with a UK company and part-time freelance teaching. They express concern about the validity of their income due to the nature of their contract and the amount earned. Comments indicate that applying with a zero-hour contract is acceptable, with no minimum income requirement, as long as they can show sufficient bank balance (at least 500,000 THB) and proof of income.

Siam Legal told me that I would need a current amount of payslips to show. Nothing was said about the amount of earnings. So from what I was told and from what you have said, you sound good to go.

perfect. One job is paid as paye and earnings are quite good. The freelance job is just top up money, which I have to do self assessment for tax every year. What letter is needed from my company to say I work remotely? Or can I just provide evidence through screenshot etc.. as I teach online for a university through their online system, but the university are a client of my employers.

I dont think you will need a letter to prove that you work remotely as your payslips would confirm that anyway? So yeah screenshots should be OK. I can only go on what I have been told and as they are a well known business, they obviously wouldnt include any loopholes that may be available to manipulate. I know that if your platform(s) and students are all outside Thailand as is your salary then no problems from immigration will come your way

As for the tax, you are only eligble to pay tax in Thailand if you stay there over 180 days in one year. I dont know whether thats a calendar year that starts in January to December or whether it kicks in on the first day you enter until 364 days later.

Like I said Im only passing on the knowledge I have and would hate to give anyone incorrect info so anyone reading can come in and correct me at any point.

Will you be travelling around or based?

thanks for info. I really appreciate it. I am actually returning to Thailand after being back in the UK for the past 3yrs. I came back here for my daughter's education. She has now just finished her 1st year at university and is OK for me to leave now. I am thinking of having a base, maybe HuaHin, or Rayong, as I know these areas well, and then taking time to slow travel to other areas. Any places you can suggest, which are good where people are working remotely?

how are you paid for online teaching? Only thing I'm concerned about is I'm paid via alipay, in rmb. Would they have an issue that it doesn't go to my UK account?

if salary shows in your bank statements need to be able to provide proof of income in form of payslips be prepared they are gonna request that

As long as you can show the payslips is what I was told. This has nothing to do with the 500K. Its 2 separate things and as far as Im aware you dont need to show a bank account where your payments go into, just that you are currently working online, so dont supply pay slips from 2023 for example as that wont wash, you need to be currently working online. Email your platform and ask them. I did that and they sent me mine but I havent worked online for a while as the pay is low for England

I dont like banks so my money is elsewhere and when I know I will apply I will make sure I have that amount in my account 3 months prior. I will then move to Vietnam, start online again activating my payslips and apply maybe a month or so after commencing teaching

The DTV visa does not require proof of how much you earn. The main requirement is a bank balance of at least 500,000 THB in your name.

1. If you want to apply for the DTV visa in the UK, you must show a bank statement with a balance of no less than 500,000 THB for at least the past 3 months. To be safe, wait until you have the full 3-month history or consider applying in Vietnam instead.

2. If you can provide a Remote Work Certificate, along with documents like pay slips and personal tax records, it should be no problem at all.

You are fine to apply, the DTV is made to include freelancers, contract workers. Other zero hour contracters have been approved, there are posts by limited income online teachers who have got approved. There is no minimum income requirement, you have 20K quid and proof of income so you are good to apply.
