TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on applying for a 60-day visa extension after marrying a Thai national while initially entering Thailand on a 30-day visa-exempt entry. Comments suggest visiting the local immigration office for requirements, potential complications with the marriage visa process, and suggestions to meet financial requirements including having a Thai bank account. Some responses emphasize gathering necessary documents, while others recommend considering the assistance of an agency to navigate the visa process.

it is not as difficult as these comments are leading you to believe. You do not need an agent. Immediately get a Thai bank account in your name only, and get the bt400,000 in it, and it doesn't matter where the money comes from. As soon as you have that done, with copies of your wife's ID, and your passport, bank statements showing the money is in the account, and a letter showing it is your account, and finally copies of your marriage license and amphur registration document, you can go to immigration immediately and get your type O 90 visa stamp. This gives you 90 days for the bank money to season for two months, and to get the rest of the documents together. When the money's been in your account for two months, and you have the documents from the list immigration gave you, you can apply for your one year extension. Remember to keep copies of all the documents, as in following years all you'll need is updated bank letters, and pictures. Everything else is the same, unless you move. Most of the documents you need an agent can't help you with so don't even bother with one.

Thanks for that, it seems to be the constructive and informative so far,we went to immigration this morning, that was a whole adventure in itself, it's a good thing I'm retired and have plenty of spare time on my hands.

Did you get 30 or 60 days. It should have been 60.

you were stamped in for 60 days visa-exempt. Get the 30-days extension for 1900 THB, before you apply for the 60-days extension based on family visit. . . . . . . . . . . only if you wanna hold out as long as you can and stay in Thailand. . . . . . . . . . . . . . But this doesn't cut any ice for your route to the one-year stay permit. . . . . . . . you need to be aware: you cannot get a Thai bank account opened, neither on the visa-exempt nor on the 30- or 60-days extension. You need to EXIT Thailand and return on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa (married to a Thai wife) which you can aquire outside of Thailand by showing funds in your home country bank account. Only on this visa, you can get a bank account opened in Thailand, in order to deposit the required 400,000 THB needed for the 1-Year Extension of the Stay Permit based on being married to a Thai wife

Its not as easy as just running on down and getting a visa. The marriage visa I think is the most complicated and time consuming visa. There's the financial requirements prior to getting the visa. All the paperwork from the amphur etc. The non o, then the actual visa. House visits, witnesses etc etc

Depending on the Immigration Office you may not be given a 60 day "Visit Thai Family" on a Visa Exempt entry stamp so go there and ask ASAP then plan accordingly.

You need a bank account, money deposited of 400,000 tbt, and the list of requirements from your immigration office.

there is a 60 day extension available for visiting Thai family (spouse or kid) that I assume he is referring to. It does not have the financial requirement and is a good option to buy more time to gather all the documents needed for the non-o.
