I am married to a Thai National. I arrived on visa exempt stamp and did my 30 day extension already at IT Square. The immigration officer there say I could extend again based on marriage. My present 30 day extension expires on Jan 23. Will I be able to extend for another 70 days? She said bring my wife and marriage certificate with me to do, but was not clear on validity. Any experience or advice? Thx in advance. U S Passport

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend your stay in Thailand for an additional 60 days based on your marriage, but it is not a straightforward 70-day extension. The extension will start from the date you apply, and you'll need to provide your marriage certificate and possibly additional documentation, such as proof of your wife's last name change or a rental agreement if she doesn't own the property you reside in. One key point to note is that this extension can only be done once per entry on a visa exempt stamp, and afterwards, your options would be to apply for a one-year marriage extension or leave Thailand.

I’ve recently did this extension. It’s a PITA, paper work wise.

- if your wife took your last name, you’ll need a photo copy and the original paperwork for that.

- if she doesn’t own the property you live in, you’ll need a copy of the owners ID card with a written note stating she rents from them.

This is along with what’s listed in that photo Brandon posted.

Also, it starts the day you apply. It’s not like the other extensions, gets added on.

Referring to entering Thailand without a visa from approved countries like the U S. Automatic 45 day visa exempt stamp

actually you can get a 60 day visit Thai family extension, after using the first 30 day extension.

So for example now visa exempt 45 days + 30 day extension + 60 visit family extension.

Can be done once per entry.

You won't be extending based on marriage per se, because marriage extension is for 1 year and requires 400,000₿ in the bank.

What they were likely talking about is the visiting Thai family extension. I've attached a photo with the general guidelines for this extension but there may be additional requirements based on the office.

This extension is only for 60 days, so you won't be able to get 70 days. You can only do this once per entry to Thailand so after this your only options are the 1 year marriage extension with proof of funds, or leave Thailand.

Beware that because you're changing the reason for your extension away from tourism, it's possible this new extension may start from the day you apply and not from the end of your current stamp.

If you wait to go on Monday, I highly recommend making an appointment as Monday is usually the busiest day.

Thank you. I will go tmrw. I only need the one 60 day visit Thai wife extension as I my flight departure is Mar 28. Actually will change to leave earlier!

Do you think IT Square or Chang Wattana? Brief advice was from IT Square officer

@Doug *****
you do it at IT Square. Trust me, you’ll need a lot of paper work for this extension.

You were right Randy…got it done today at IT Square…having a Blue Book House Registration helped my cause. Although we have been renting at a place for years!

Thanks 🙏

@Doug *****
you’re very welcome. Trust me, it took us 3 trips to IT Square to get it right. My wife taking my name and not having the original certificate and the apartment owners statement about her renting held us back. But once we had everything in order, it was straight forward.

pretty sure where you go is based on the visa (or exemption) you arrive on. So for visa exemption you go to IT Square. I did a 1yr extension there recently as I came in Visa Exempt.

I believe it will be Chaeng Watthana. At IT Square they only deal with short term visas (visa exempt, visa on arrival) but everything else including tourist visa is all handled at Chaeng Watthana.

I have done this the last 3 years and they have dated it from when my TR60 finished (Korat IO)

Maybe it helps.
