At least 20 pieces of paper to sign, some of them copies of already signed copies. Time ticking... finally finished. One day Bangkok bank may fast forward several decades and wake up in a digital era where documents can be scanned. Like they do at Krung Thai, for example.
Smile, say thank you and run, as fast as I can. đ¤Łđđ

TLDR : Answer Summary
Changing your address at Bangkok Bank can be a cumbersome process, reportedly requiring multiple documents and signatures, often leading to frustration among customers. This has sparked a discussion among expats about the excessive paperwork involved compared to other banks in Thailand. Many users expressed dissatisfaction, comparing it to more streamlined processes in other countries and banks. Comments highlight the lengthy and inefficient process, with some users sharing their personal experiences and frustrations about the banking system in Thailand.
22 years at this bank, needless to say I fired them recently.

Japan: It took me 2 hours, in person, at the branch, to change my address with the biggest Japanese bank. The change was - I bought my home in Japan, all documents were updated (ID card, Tax file number, driving license) by government bodies. Still.

With my U.S. bank, you update your address in the app from your recliner.
Dear Bangkok Bank, if your app is secure enough to transfer all your money out of your account, why isnât it secure enough to update your mailing address?
Serious question⌠Why do you need to update your address? Mine has been wrong for years without any issues

I did not really complain, rather I was telling it like it is. If you believe my bank did not ask to copy my driving licence then that is up to you. It sounds like my reflection of what happened is triggering you to complain. 555
Because before, nobody cared. Now, for a variety of convoluted and opaque reasons, some Really Important People care.
There's a whole lot of poking around going on right now. And NONE of it by people who give a cr*p about customer experience or satisfaction. This appears to be purely political.
with the lived experience, I can say that I have not seen any bank explian their reason or providing any evidence for any reason for blocking my accounts and getting them unlocked would not have happened without proving my ID, my visa status, and my address.
because, to have the wrong address can be a problem if someone wants to make a problem for you. As we have seen, thousands are having to verify their ID, that includes your address. So from what you say it sounds like your wrong address will be the wrong address too for any immigration, insurance, driving licence, etc? Good luck.
I havenât seen any reports of accounts being locked because of the address? Your passport doesnât require an address so Iâm not sure what kind of ID youâre talking about except a driving license which is not required to open a bank account. Seems to me you are wasting your time and energy then complaining about it.
My address is correct with immigration and that address isnât linked to any bank account
it pays to be correct. My bank certainly wants to know my address. Without a correct address you can not be correctly identified, according to them. My bank copied my driving licences as proof of ID when changing address. I know not why. I learnt asking why is a waste of time, often because they may not know why themselves. My bank details can also be used to verify my address to overseas establishments, if that is what they say they want. So you carry on, and I will too.
passport, residence certificate, rental agreement, house book, owner's documents, 2 x driving licences, bank book x 2, ATM card. Copy everything, sign copies. 1 set for change address for each of two accounts, 1 set for change address for atm card. Plus, 1 form to 'request' the changes. The staff gave me macha tea, coffee and candy though, so I guess that makes it all ok...
yes, each branch makes up their own requirements. Everything is paper documents. Where do they have enough room to store all those documents? Feels like 1964.
why is this exactly? Itâs easier for us to open a business here than others and do everything that wayâŚmaybe theyâre pushing us all to do so? đ
I am British. If you read thr post the policy and procedures at other banks here is nit the same. Far from it. One bank is living 50 years in the past, whilst others are light years ahead.
