Hey 👋

Has anyone here had experience entering Thailand on a different passport than the one your DTV visa is stamped on?

Specifically, if you hold a DTV on Passport A, leave Thailand, then re-enter using Passport B (a different nationality), did it cause any issues at immigration?

Any real-world experiences appreciated! 🙏
Answer summary
The consensus among the community is that you should use the passport associated with your DTV visa when entering Thailand. Immigration authorities typically require that the passport you enter on matches the one linked to your visa, as visas and entry stamps are passport-specific. While some users reported successfully using two passports by showing both at entry, experiences vary, and using the passport with the DTV visa is strongly recommended to avoid complications.

Not sure why you are complicating this. If you want to enter on the DTV use the passport it was issued on. If you try and enter on the other passport you may encounter issues. Enter on the passport of the DTV and take both passports to the bank

I'd say no if it's the case that you have 2 nationality passports.

The DTV was issued to a certain individual holding an X passport. You can probably enter visa exempt tho.

You are not going to be able to enter on the DTV issued to one passport if you're using a passport from another country.

The Visa is passport specific you want to enter you enter the country on that passport.

Carry both passports, show the visa, use the passport. 99% of the time they will oblige and stamp you in, especially if there is a valid reason (full passport, aged or damaged passport, expired passport) there is more chance of a refusal if its simply 'because I want to'.

It is possible to get a grumpy IO, I had one that wouldnt let me swap at a land border and who claimed they had to put it in the same passport as had the other land borders exit stamp (this is false as I have done the exact same process other times) even tho I was down to only a couple of spare pages in the one I was trying to preserve, but that was 1 from many experiences. By air never been a questions.

I have carried 2 valid passports, I have had corner clipped expired passports with the visa, etc etc.

I have never seen somebody be able to enter on a passport from another country while holding a Visa tired to the other passport

you cannot change passports at a land border. That's very well known. You must stamp into the other country with the same passport you exited Thailand with. And then you have to stamp back into Thailand on the same passport you exited the other country with. Meaning you cannot do it. Only if flying can you change passports.

I did (1 month ago) - I have a valid DTV in passport A, left the country and re-entered with passport B on a visa exemption.

(Reason - switching to Thai Privilege visa and a different passport)

Worked completely fine, they did ask to see both passports. Though in my case it was even easier since I used TP’s fast track entry.

Which airport did you go through?

Good idea using fast track service.

Why would you do this @ANON? Hiding something?

no, not hiding anything.

Simply need to do things with the bank which was initially set up on the other passport.

Keep it SIMPLE...

Use the Passport for which your DTV Visa was approved... period 🩸

WHY are you even wanting to use another passport? For what purpose?

Question is why you'd want to enter on another nationality passport when you have a passport with a visa. Make no sense. And Thai immigration uses biometrics on entry

OP
CopperElk5611 bank matters.

Passport A (With DTV) cannot receive service at the bank.

Passport B is eligible of receiving bank services.

Hence the reason of entering Thailand borders with Passport B.

CopperElk5611 Full passport, damaged passport, limited pages remaining, a passport that must be posted away to obtain travel visas for countries which dont have a local embassy, there are a multitude of valid reasons.

CopperElk5611 Silly question. Agree makes no sense. Put the other passport in the safe!

The DTV is not stamped on your passport. The question does not make any sense

So then if it is simply for banking matters (for ex you have your passport B as ID at the bank), then use passport A with DTV to enter and bring both passports to bank-- passport B will ID you with the bank.

The question makes complete sense. It’s simply for bank reasons, that is all.

I flew from China to Thailand before, my dtv is in uk passport but I was flying out of China on a Dutch passport (for visa exemption in China at the time)

When I arrived at immigration, I showed my british passport, but they then asked for my other passport which was linked to my arrival ticket - they said in the future to travel on my passport which I intend to enter the country with to avoid confusion.

Not quite the situation you are implying, but I assume they will be able to match both your passports together with the same biometric data. However your visa from one nationality passport won’t be transferable to another nationality passport

Simple, in your travel profile, enter the details of the passport you intend to use for entry to Thailand. You can use one passport for the trip to China and another one for Thailand, no issues.

Travel with both passports. Or go to embassy and have it transferred over.

No experience, but theoretical assumption: All passports (issued by different countries) are treated independently.

i.e: if your passport B does not have a Thai visa, and your passport B is not eligible for a visa on arrival / no visa then you can not use your passport-B to enter Thailand regardless of whether you have a valid DTV on passport-A or not.

Your visa is connected to one passport, and you cannot use that visa without using that passport. Passports don’t talk to each other, neither they can share each other’s credentials or visas.

FascinatingSpinach6593 nonsense..

I have travelled with 2 passports for decades (same nationality) and they look at the visa in one and stamp the other.

Why make posts that add confusion like this if you just dont know ??

I do know a little. Read the original post again. He/she is talking about two passports issued by two different countries. That is totally different from old and new passports from the same country.

I have travelled with visa on my old passport, and stamp on the new. That’s not the case we are talking about here.
Sefton ********

FascinatingSpinach6593 the visa is for the person, not the passport.

Again the anon accounts

Just show DTV visa on your old passport and get a stamp on new one.

i am not trying to transfer my DTV.

Simply entering with passport B (with no DTV) so I can do some banking stuff as passport B holds the ownership for those bank accounts.

I got told that the DTV isn't transferable. Even when you lose the passport or there are no pages left anymore. New passport needs to apply for a new visa. If you have valid proof that it's not like this I would appreciate to know.

that's not how any Thai Visa works, especially since they're not inside your passport anymore.
Josh *****

You don't, and it's not on the passport like that , it's electronic, and the entry stamps go in the passport, not the visa itself. It's not like a Chinese visa where they stamp it into your passport.
