I filled out the Evisa to request 12 months, got an appointment and went to the office. They gave a 30 day extension. How do we get a 12 month stay?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user initially requested a 12-month stay via Evisa but was granted only a 30-day extension. The responses clarify that Evisa applications are only made from outside Thailand, and to obtain a 12-month stay, the user needs to convert their tourist visa to a Non-O visa. This involves applying in person and fulfilling financial requirements, including having 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account. After obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa, the user can then apply for a 12-month extension.

Your on a tourist visa or visa exemption with 30 days extension. You can apply for 90 days Non O visa in country first on a TM.86 or TM.87 form. After 90 days you can apply for 12 months extension of stay. The fee is 2000 thb.

As you’re from AUS, your embassy doesn’t offer to provide an affidavit letter to confirm your income/pension for the Non O or extension of stay. Therefore the first thing you’ll have to do now is to open a bank account and put 800K thb for fulfil financial requirements for a Non O. It’s not easy to open a bank account in Thailand now without a Long Stay visa, so you might need to get an agent to help you with this first step.

You'll also need to meet the financial requirements depending on the visa you are wanting. The non-o retiree/50+ requires 800k in a Thai bank.

Alternatively a good agent would cost circa 25k for 15 months,

there is no 1 year tourist visa. At most you get 60 to 90 days and then you have to border run.

Sounds like you're confused about some things.

First of all Evisa is only available from Thai embassies outside of Thailand, so you didn't fill out any evisa to get an extension.

You might be talking e-extension. This is a new system and if you entered as a tourist (tourist visa or visa exempt) then the ONLY thing you could use this system for is to apply for the 30 day tourism extension.

You can't apply for ANY 12 month extension. You would first need to apply for a non-O visa conversion, which you must do in person and cannot do this with the e-extension system since you're not applying for an extension, you're applying for a visa conversion.

After you get the 90 day non-O visa you can then apply for a 1-year extension after you've been on the visa for 60 days.

You would want to go to your immigration office and request their handout for what is required to convert to a non-O visa. Do that now, and then start gathering everything you need.
