Hi I thought I could get a 3 month visa and apply for my year ao visa once inside the country. I can't see how to get the 3 month visa though. Does it still exist or did it all change with the e-visa situation

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 3-month visa still exists and can be a starting point for applying for a year-long Non-O visa in Thailand. There are options for applying for a single-entry Non-O visa based on being over 50, which can be processed both out of and within Thailand. The Non-OA visa, often confused with the Non-O, can only be obtained from the applicant's home country and requires health insurance. When in Thailand, those over 50 can also apply for a visa extension.

Non-OA can only be obtained in your home country. It comes with an insurance requirement, but does not require any money to be transferred into a Thai bank account, plus it is good for two years with one border bounce

you have NEVER been able to apply for an OA visa inside thailand.

You can indeed get a 90 day Non-O visa thru the eVisa website, then come here, get 90 days, and when that runs down apply for the year extension at the immigration office

Been the same for the last ten years, except for the addition of health insurance about five years ago. No change since a year ago

ok I must have misunderstood. Is there any benefit to getting an oa as opposed to an O? Can you go in and out of the country on both?

that IS what you're referring to actually, that's the 90 day Non-O visa and then you come in and apply for a year extension after you're here by banking the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months

Can you tell me what 6 and 7 refer to. I'm not finding it obvious and where they refer you to doesn't help clarify

that's IF you are applying for the OA or OX Visa from your home country Thai Embassy or Consulate. It has a requirement for health insurance.

The Non O Visa as retiree and the One year extension of stay as retired does not require you to have health insurance.

Yes.

What is it that you are wanting to do?

Where are you now?

You can't get the OA visa inside Thailand.

You can apply for an in-country initial Non-O visa based on being over 50 at most immigration offices in Thailand, following 1-year extension application.

you can't get an OA visa inside Thailand. What you can get inside Thailand is a non-o visa. You can only get an OA visa in your home country

The single entry Non-O based on being over 50 (retirement) is most certainly an option on the e-visa scheme. Also, when in country you would apply for an extension based on being over 50, the Non-OA is only available in your home country and comes with health insurance requirements.
