Can I enter Thailand on a visa exempt entry and apply for a Non-O marriage visa after arrival?

Hi all new here so sorry if this has been asked before. I'm about to leave the US and head back to my wife. I was told I can do visa exempt and then get a non o for marriage when I get there. Is that 100% correct or do I need to have a visa prior to coming into Thailand? I'd hate to get there and be denied a marriage visa and have to do this all again. Any help is welcome and thank you ahead of time!!

you got kinda correct info :)

You can indeed enter on a 45 day visa exempt entry and then apply first for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage and then after that a year extension also based on marriage.

You'll have to meet the proof of funds by having 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only to apply for the in country 90 day Non-O visa and then that money will need to be in the account for 2 months before you apply for the year extension (after your 90 days runs down)
