Can I apply for a marriage visa in Thailand with a visa exemption stamp?

I read on an common agency website, that if I enter thailand with visa exemption stamp, i can still apply for a marriage visa at the local thai immigration office providing I meet the requirements for the 90 day Non-O visa.

This is confusing as

1. It seems to suggest I have to apply for the Type O visa as I havd to meet the requirements for it.

2. I don’t have the Thai bank account as it cannot be opened without a Type O visa.

Don’t get me wrong, im not getting my hopes up by relying on this route to a marriage visa.

Are my ‘doubts’ correct?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is confused about applying for a marriage visa in Thailand while entering with a visa exemption stamp. They question whether they can meet the requirements for the 90-day Non-O visa, especially regarding the necessity of having a Thai bank account, which they cannot open without a Non-O visa. Community comments suggest it is easier to obtain the Non-O visa before arriving in Thailand to avoid complications with bank accounts and other visa documentation. There are mentions of agencies that can assist with the application process and issues surrounding the proof of being single for marriage purposes.

You have to prove you are single, therefore free to marry. Also, get the requirements handout from the office where you apply. They may want more, they may want less.

The Non Imm O is the marriage visa.

non-O Immigration covers alot not just marriage

Get the non-o before you come then you can open a bank account

I converted a 60-day exemption stamp into a Non-O visa and recently had the 1 year marriage extension stamped in my passport. Do you know if you can get a bank account on the initial 90-day Non-O? The money only had to soak in the account for 60 days for me, but I already had a Thai bank account I got years ago.

It’s possible but several branches require minimum one year "visa", which means a Non O-A visa or Non O with one year extension of stay.

, that's what I was thinking. The timeline to open the account and get the money in to soak is very short too. Maybe too many issues with even trying without already having an account. Thanks for the answer.

What I don’t understand is this requirement???

double double check l mean for you can married in Thailand you need proof you was single

So they ask this paper even they know you can't get married if you was not single

Headache

the actual requirement is, the marriage must be acknowledged inside Thailand, and since he mentioned they got the Kor Ror 2 from many years ago, this is already done & dusted. So, for Immigration, he needs a FRESHLY printed Kor Ror 2 from the local Amphur office. He cannot use an old one (he could theoretically be divorced since a long time ago and use old documents to front his application)

@Nine *****
is this in thailand for the extension?

Or for the Type O?

We have no paperwork stating i was single. I have no idea how I can prove it.

I may have to go ghe retirement route.

Weve only been married 22 years.

celibacy certificate

For my self if l want married in Thailand as french

I need to show celibacy certificate

I ask this document online

Just like no criminal record
Nongnuch ********
@Nine *****
that's a different topic, thank you. That would be the "certificate of capacity to marry" in English (celibacy is something what catholic priests need to follow 😉)

@John ********
mean you was single

When you do marriage they will ask you prove from your country you single for you can married

They just ask you again even you already married

So if possible ask proof from your home country you was single before your marriage

If you can't do it

You ask copy where you registered your mariage that's you was single

Non-O is a bit of catch all, the O stands for Other, so it covers marriage, dependant and retirement options. Probably others too that don't immediately come to mind, the requirements vary depending on the reason you apply. But to get one inside Thailand you do need a Thai bank account with whatever funds they require in it, it's not totally impossible to get a bank account on a tourist entry but it's certainly very difficult. It's much easier to get the Non-O for your chosen reason before coming to Thailand and if you are already here it would be worth travelling to a country in the region that will allow you to use your home bank funds and applying for the Non-O there.

If you don't have the Thai Bank account, I don't think you can't apply in Thailand unless your countries' embassy in Thailand gives out a affidavit confirming your income.

And I hear some Immigration offices are not accepting this affidavit for Non-O based on marriage anymore.

Better to get your Non-O back in your home country, and get the bank account when you arrive so you can set yourself up for getting a extension of stay.

@Marianne *******
You can apply in country, but you’ll need to apply through a visa company that are able to open a bank account for you as an example the owner of this site and they will open a bank accounts for you as a service in a total package with Non O visa in country and your first extension of stay.

@Jan *****************
Sure, but it is getting increasingly difficult for agents to sort out banking as well.

So... unless there is a guarantee or return of money if they can't do their magic. I'd not go with this option.
Jan ******************
@Marianne *******
Yes, you don’t pay in advance and if you ask agents they’ll normally tell they can’t help you, because they can’t.

But bigger companies as the owners of this site
@THAI *****************************
has confirmed they’re still able to assist you with a bank account if you’re on visa exemption or tourist visa and apply for a Non O in country with them as a total service. I know a couple of other too.

@John ********
However, your problem is, you cannot open a Thai bank account on a tourist visa or visa-exempt entry. You need the bank account, because you have to use the deposit method (since your embassy does not issue any income affidavits)
Nongnuch ********
yes you can do the "change of visa type" on Immigration, If you want to "change" to the 90-days Non-Imm-Family Visa" (married to a Thai partner) then the requirements are listed under number 6 here:

Jan ******************
You can, but as everything has turned out now, you’ll need to go through an agent to be able to open a bank account to prove that you fulfil financial requirements for a Non O visa based on marriage. Better odds to do as Graham advises you.
Stuart ***********
Agencies are in business and want you to pay for as many of their services as they can. So yes you can do it this way, but you will end up paying a lot for these services and likely have to use their services every year thereafter. Much easier and cheaper to get the non O before you come to Thailand. You will also then have no problem opening a bank account, as you have a long term visa, instead of being a tourist.

Why don't you get your Non-O Marriage Visa before you travel to make what follows much easier?
