I

informed that I could apply for a non-O (marriage visa) Visa in Thailand, having spoken to immigration they informed me that I can’t get an O Visa unless I have a bank account. So I went to the bank and the bank said. I can’t get a bank account as I don’t have a long-term Visa. What is this all about? is there a way of sorting this out in Thailand or do I need to go back to the UK and sort it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice after being unable to open a bank account required for applying for a non-O (marriage) visa in Thailand. Immigration officials stated that a bank account is necessary, but the bank has refused to open an account due to the lack of a long-term visa. Options discussed include leaving Thailand to apply for the visa at an embassy in another country (like Laos or Vietnam), using an agent to open a bank account while on a tourist visa, or asking immigration for assistance in opening a bank account. Experts emphasize the need for proper documentation and suggest avoiding mobile devices when completing visa applications online.

You will need to apply from out of Thailand. Make sure you have the relevant documentation. An issue always arises when trying to upload bank statements. Two possible reasons for this is the size of the statements, you will need to compress them (they all have to be part of one pdf document) if they are over the required size. A second common reason for failure is the hardware that you are using. Don’t try and complete the application with an iPhone or iPad, use a laptop or desktop. Good luck 👍

Go back to immi, and ask them to write a letter authorising the bank to open the account for you

A quick holiday to Vientiane in Loas and you can apply online from there. Only takes a few days to get if you have the required documentation to load onto application

I’m as calm can be. But these questions are asked repeatedly and someone always says they’ve been asked repeatedly.

What is truly amazing is how stupid and inept people have become in doing the slightest amount of research for everything.

Another option is to use an agent, they can open bank accounts whilst on visa exempt or tourist visa providing you are immediately applying for a long stay visa. Not cheap but an option if you don’t want to leave the country.

Visas are meant to be obtained from embassies before traveling to a country.

While some immigration offices do allow you to apply for certain visas inside of Thailand, you must still meet the requirements of those visas, which including proof of finances which is always in a Thai bank if applying in Thailand.

No bank in Thailand allows accounts unless you're on a long-term visa.

So your option now is to leave Thailand and apply for a non-O visa at a Thai embassy. You don't have to go to UK, you can go to Laos, or Vietnam, or some other country and apply. Embassies accept financial proof from any bank, not just Thai banks.
