I have a friend staying with me in my condo in Chiang Mai (condo owned by me). He is on a tourist visa and was due to leave before the 30 days expired. He has now decided to stay longer and needs to extend his tourist visa. Does he need a TM30 for this? Needless to say I haven't filed one for his stay thus far.

If he does need one can I do it now? And what is the process?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about the process for their friend, who is on a tourist visa in Chiang Mai, to extend his stay. They ask whether a TM30 form is required, especially since they haven't filed one during his initial stay. A comment suggests that the friend should go to the immigration office with the condo owner and required documents to potentially file the TM30 before applying for the extension.

You can go with him to the immigration office by the airport in Chiang Mai with your chanote (the title deed) and passport

IF they require a TM30 be filed on him you can do it before he applies for his 30 day extension.

That is the process. ๐Ÿ™‚

His passport will be stamped the day he arrived, if he is staying at you're condo it's up to you to file a tm30

That's NOT how the "arrival date" for a TM30 is calculated.

How do they know when he arrived? He'd been traveling around within Thailand before he came to mine.

They would know based on the date he submitted on the TM30.

Your friend would be fined. The fine is up to 2K THB, but most immigration offices only charge 1,600 THB.

that's the easiest way to do it, just go with him when he goes for his extension.

You could down load one of the mobile applications, register to use it, then try to file a TM30 for him,
