I’m a US citizen currently working remotely from Ethiopia & am trying to apply for a DTV. I’ve two dependents (wife & kid) that are both Ethiopian citizens. How do I go about this?
Do I apply as if I’m living in Ethiopia (in which case the application apparently is handled by the consulate in Niarobi) or do I apply as if I’m living in the US. If the latter then would the consulate in the US also handle the case for my wife/kid although they aren’t a US resident?
TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen currently working remotely in Ethiopia seeking a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) should apply through the consulate in Nairobi, as this is the correct consulate for residents of Ethiopia. The applicant needs to apply for their DTV first, and once approved, their Ethiopian wife and child can apply as dependents, providing proof of marriage and parenthood. It is important to verify with the Nairobi embassy about specific requirements for non-permanent residents. Applications can't be made through US consulates if the applicant is in Ethiopia.
