TLDR : Answer Summary
An American looking to obtain a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand should start by applying online, as provided by resources like thaievisa.go.th. However, if already in Thailand, itโ€™s necessary to travel to a neighboring country to apply in person at a Thai embassy or consulate. The application process includes submitting personal information, required documentation, and payment, with the approval typically communicated via email. It's advised to check the local Thai embassy's website for specific guidelines and requirements.

US citizens like myself cannot get Thailand tourist e-visa while in Thailand.

Go to any country and apply for e-visa while in the country you chose to visit.

December 2023 I went to South Korea for a 4 day family vacation and while there I applied for the Thailand 60 day tourist e-visa. All the paperwork was completed 2 days into my trip and it took an additional 2-3 weeks for me to receive my e-visa via email.

As per the application process I had to prove I was in South Korea by showing my flight purchase and showing my South Korea visa in my passport.

You canโ€™t fudge it. Hope this is helpful.

I guess if you're already in Thailand you'd best go to a nearby country and apply at a Thai embassy for a tourist visa.

they get visa exempt for 30 days and can extend by 30. They do not get 15 day visa on arrival which is bought at airport. He's already in the country and has been doing border runs.

Go to the Thaiembassy website. It will route you to LA or DC. Determine the VISA you wish to get and proceed to enter data, take pictures and Pay. Then in about a week it should be ready for you.

No, they will email you a doc to travel with and you will give that doc to the Immagration Officer at the airport in Thailand.

If you are already in Thailand you cannot get an eVisa. You leave to a neighbouring country and apply in person at the Embassy/Consulate. Check the website for requirements.

First, make sure you are an American.

If so, apply online with the requested information. If you have been a good boy you will most likely get a visa..

I went to the official website and painstakingly filled out the 60 day tourist visa application correctly after several attempts. Before I could submit my application, I attempted to complete the payment process and my credit card repeatedly was rejected. I tried a different credit card and it was also rejected. I think that website is trash. Came to Thailand anyway on a visa exemption and made a border run after 30 days to get a second exemption. I was upset over the time I wasted trying to purchase the 60 day tourist visa, but Iโ€™m over that clown show now.

I guess your credit card isn't unlocked for payments in Asia. Remember, the payment is initiated by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok

yes, I understand that, but I have been using the same credit cards here in Thailand for the last two months without any issues.

why did you waste the time and money doing a border bounce when you could just get a 30 day extension?

@Brandon ***********
because a border bounce to Malaysia (quite close to where Iโ€™m at) costs me less than 1000 baht for transportation, accommodation, and food, as opposed to paying 1900 baht at the local immigration office and sitting outdoors for up to two hours waiting for them to process my application. Plus doing a border run is like a mini adventure instead of a bureaucratic process.

many people have trouble completing the payment using the website and a mobile phone. It is/was a browser problem that could be avoided by completing the application on a pc instead of a phone.

I was using a pc at a public library. Perhaps that was the issue.
