TLDR : Answer Summary
A tourist visa for Thailand is valid for 60 days, and it is recommended to apply within 90 days of your arrival. If arriving on November 1, applying as soon as possible is advisable. Additionally, there are options for visa exemption and extensions that can extend stays up to 30 days.

60 day's visa normally take a day

Or as I have done twice. You get to the embassy fill up little document

Pay 40 dollars

Come day after a pick up. That's it

Once few years ago they gave it free because was political problems in Thailand and they wanted to attract tourists

Visa exempt is 30 days, tourist visa is 60 days. You can apply for a 30 day extension for either one.

how long to you plan to stay in total?? I always get (a Mailed) visa with multiple entry provision for 6 months, but now that is an e-visa..and many things are changing re border hops..which one has(had) to do every 2 months. Was never a problem since I stay in Chiang Rai area, thus close to Mai Sai and border. And, yes ..it seems to appear that a 45 day visa will start in October.. which probably can be renewed at least once. Also Canadian, btw.

yes..beneath comment is important...visa on arrival is not the same creature as visa exempt...so extension is not to be taken for granted . Visa Exempt ,however May be changed in Oct to have a life of 45 days rather than the present 30. So, again ..depends of your desired length of stay. Meanwhile , learn about the long term visa

I stay for roughly 5 months..so little undecided which route to take re visa.. will try a call to Thai Embassy in Ottawa to clarify things a bit...but, advantage in multiple entry visa used to be that it's all paid for beforehand..except obviously visa entry into , in my case..Myanmar ..where you just walk across the bridge , and return..had it down to 25 minutes last few times there.

a tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date it is issued. As long as you enter Thailand before the end of those 90 days, you'll be stamped in for 60 days.
