TLDR : Answer Summary
A tourist visa for Thailand is valid for 60 days, and it is recommended to apply within 90 days of your arrival. If arriving on November 1, applying as soon as possible is advisable. Additionally, there are options for visa exemption and extensions that can extend stays up to 30 days.

60 day's visa normally take a day

Or as I have done twice. You get to the embassy fill up little document

Pay 40 dollars

Come day after a pick up. That's it

Once few years ago they gave it free because was political problems in Thailand and they wanted to attract tourists

every embassy is different. And the ones that do evisa now no longer allow you to go in person.

Sorry the should have been under a different topic.

Visa exempt is 30 days, tourist visa is 60 days. You can apply for a 30 day extension for either one.

Is the Visa exemption renewable at the end of 45 days or do I need to make a border run?? I’ve been told the exemption isn’t renewable?
Brandon ************
@Dave ********
visa exempt can be extended one time for 30 days.

You can now get 45 day visa on arrival, once that runs out go to any imagration and get another visa for 1900 baht.
Brandon ************
@Clive *******
the change to Visa exempt has not been published into law, and if it is, it's not set to start until October 1st.

so don't need to apply for a visa? I am Canadian so I automatically get 45 days on entry?

@Iris **********
how long to you plan to stay in total?? I always get (a Mailed) visa with multiple entry provision for 6 months, but now that is an e-visa..and many things are changing re border hops..which one has(had) to do every 2 months. Was never a problem since I stay in Chiang Rai area, thus close to Mai Sai and border. And, yes ..it seems to appear that a 45 day visa will start in October.. which probably can be renewed at least once. Also Canadian, btw.

@Gorgon ****
for sure for 45 days then will extend for 30......we are here in PEI...

@Iris **********
yes..beneath comment is important...visa on arrival is not the same creature as visa exempt...so extension is not to be taken for granted . Visa Exempt ,however May be changed in Oct to have a life of 45 days rather than the present 30. So, again ..depends of your desired length of stay. Meanwhile , learn about the long term visa

I stay for roughly 5 months..so little undecided which route to take re visa.. will try a call to Thai Embassy in Ottawa to clarify things a bit...but, advantage in multiple entry visa used to be that it's all paid for beforehand..except obviously visa entry into , in my case..Myanmar ..where you just walk across the bridge , and return..had it down to 25 minutes last few times there.
Brandon ************
@Gorgon ****
all Myanmar land borders are closed and I don't expect they'll be open any time soon.

@Brandon ***********
yes, thanx..realize that..and if I opt for 6 month e-visa, would have to use Thai immigration offices, I do expect ..

@Clive *******
Is this Official? Has it been published in The Royal Gazette?
Brandon ************
@Clem *****
no, it's not official. And it's not set to start until October 1st.

A tourist visa is valid for 90 days. So you should apply within 90 days of when you'll arrive.
Kenny **********
@Brandon ***********
I thought tourist visa of these is only for 30 days
Mihai ********
@Kenny *********
im in proces of obtaining tr.visa...and its new to me this sistem?

How long it take ? Thanks
Brandon ************
@Mihai *******
different for every country. Some consulates are faster than others. Generally between 5-15 days.
Brandon ************
@Kenny *********
a tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date it is issued. As long as you enter Thailand before the end of those 90 days, you'll be stamped in for 60 days.
