Hello everyone , I’m traveling to Japan for 3 weeks before I come to Thailand , I will be in Osaka for 2 weeks, December 7-21 , I want to know if I can get 60 day visa at the Thailand embassy there in person , as a United States citizen before I arrive and then apply for 30 day extension in Thailand. Any recommendation are appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus is that as a United States citizen, you cannot apply for a 60-day visa at the Thai embassy in Japan unless you are a resident. Many suggest obtaining the visa in the US before traveling to Japan, as the process to secure a Thai visa in Japan is quite strict and challenging for foreigners. It is recommended to apply for the eVisa online before departure.

Just get your evisa on line, before you leave the USA.

Im doing this next February. Going skiing in Hokkaido but am going direct to Japan from Australia and then to Thailand so I'm just getting my visa in Oz. I think to do the same in the US is your best option

It’s almost like Thailand doesn’t want people to stay.

Come. Drop off your money. Please leave.

you CAN apply for a SETV at the Thai Embassy in Tokyu, however their requirements are pretty strict, regarding accomodation and ticketing proof. You can read about this here:

doesn't look possible unless you're a resident.

Visa is valid for 90 days from issue so you should be able to get from the states before you leave

If you'll be in the US before going to Japan, you can try applying through evisa before you leave. But you'll need to find a way to combine your ticket to Japan and then your ticket to Thailand into a single document/photo in order to upload it since they only allow one.

I'm not 100% sure if they'd accept it though.

several PDF merge software programs available. I buy one way tickets so use the PDF merge to combine into one file and haven’t had a problem

agree it's not difficult if you're even mildly tech savvy, but some are not. And some embassies strictly require a direct flight from the country you're applying from to Thailand for some reason.

No. Only Japanese residents or members of overseas posted armed forces can apply in Japan.
