Have the rules changed around the TM47 online application recently?

Just got rejected with

“For first-time requests of a 90-day notification in each country visit, in-person presentation at the immigration office is required.”

For the last few years I’ve always been able to submit online even on the first notification.

EDIT: For the record, I had my landlord update my TM30 online, then re-applied for TM47 online. Same error. So for now it seems you definitly have to go in-person for first notification, at least in Bangkok.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent discussions indicate that the rules for the TM47 online application have changed, specifically regarding the first 90-day notification after re-entering Thailand. Previously, users could submit this notification online without an in-person visit, but reports suggest that now, especially in Bangkok, first-time applications after returning from abroad must be filed in person. Multiple users have confirmed experiencing rejections for online submissions citing this new requirement. Updates indicate that after this initial in-person reporting, subsequent notifications may still be filed online.

Update:

You must report the first 90 days after re-entering Thailand in person at the immigration office. At least in Bangkok.

You cannot do a 90-day report online if you travelled abroad from Thailand and reentered, as of today, 14 May 2024. She didn't say since when though.

I talked with an officer at CW, Bangkok today.

and it would appear we've beaten this dead horse enough.

Try it online see if you get it approved,

If you get rejected try it again, and again, you're out nothing.

Worst case you go to your immigration office and file in person (which you can do up to 7 days after the due date without a fine)

Thank you one and all for the comments (y) good luck in your 90 day online endeavors

What it is if doing online all year they just ain’t seeing enough of us happy shiny people. Just once year at renewal month. It makes sense in away to them but a bit inconvenient to use

@Martin *******
nah, they just specialize in inconvenience

Is a complete lottery .

I did my very first on online , accepted no problem. Second one online accepted no problem.

Third one rejected online , reason given " incorrect entry dates and visa valid to dates "

,complete nonsense as same dates as first 2 applications and I've not left the country or moved address !!

Are there any counter-examples? Did anyone travel abroad in February and managed to renew TM47 online in May without a trip to Bangkok immigration?
Tod *********
@Matt ******
I came back in Nov and filed a 90 day report in Feb (just before the system was offline for the upgrade that month) and had it work fine, was approved in a few days

I did notice that in the footer of the website it does show “version 2024.04” ie perhaps there was a software “upgrade” in April.

it would be very helpful to know what they do want as a standard procedure for this after entering from abroad. Because then it’s not really a problem. It’s a new 90 day reporting rule/procedure Especially if you don’t live near your IMO you can arrange accordingly. And if you go abroad twice at the right times you can get away with only doing the 90 day report twice in your EofS
Martin ********
Hi as Tod has said that this is a problem that is cropping up a lot. Is it a problem that is going to be fixed as you didn’t have go to the IM office before you just counted the 90 days from arrival and done it online as usual. or is it a new procedure when you have come back from being aboard. You have to go down to IM office to start again
Tod *********
@Martin *******
it isn't a problem it's a change in the 90 day report online policy and if the rejection reason says first report when returning from abroad needs to be done in person that's what the new policy is
Martin ********
@Tod ********
oh right. I did not read that in this post or know it had been said in the rejection. it gives this reason oh well that’s sorted then back from abroad first 90DR has to be done at immigration. Sorted have you just found this out 50 mins ago
Tod *********
@Martin *******
it's certainly a new "rejection reason" 😕 If I came back into the country I certainly would try it online and see if they reject it or not. 😉 Worst they can say is you need to go in person 🙂
Mike ******
I was told by Pattaya immigration that new it system requires a visit to immigration after each entry to thailand. After that online ok.
Tod *********
@Mike *****
and that seems to match what the rejection of 90 day report reason was in the email.

My 90 days online was rejected last week .

First rejection in many years .

I moved house in March 2024 and has submitted a new TM30.

I have checked and rechecked and rechecked the address details on the 90days online before submitting BUT it was rejected….

Another possible reason is that I went overseas in Feb 2024 ??

Anyway making a trip to immigration next week .
Nick ************
If your tm30 is not up to date it will always reject your tm47. Try doing tm 30 on line then trying tm47 again. It worked for me but I hadn't left the country. Just stayed in a number of hotels.

worth a shot, I’ll try getting my landlord to update TM30 and then retry online one more time before I go in person.

@Matt ******
it would be helpful if you posted what happened.
Anthony ******
Do your TM30 24 hours after you arrive, even if you are returning to the same address
Ellie *******
@Anthony *****
, there are people who got their report rejected for the same reason with re-submitting TM30.
Anthony ******
@Ellie ******
Ah ok, I thought they were getting rejected because the arrival date is after their TM30 was previously submitted, so when re-entering you must register a new TM30 with the new date is on the system
Lee ******
No, first one needs to be in person - then can do online.

@Lee *****
this is an apparent recent change by many Thai Immigration offices, as replied by
@Tod ********
.

"Yep, people have reported getting that rejection reason now after they've returned from abroad and went to file a 90 day report . 😕."

Thanks for your reply 👍

@Lee *****
Do you read the post?

OP is talking about the first one when you travel abroad, not the very first one after the first long-term extension.
Lee ******
@Ellie ******
yes, I read the post. Bye group!

i report at chamchuri square, my wife at changwattana, same rejection reason.
Tony ********
Part of the online checking will be 'check-in date' on TM30 is greater or equal to 'In country Arrival Date' on the IMO system.
Tod *********
@Tony *******
it only matches against the address of the TM30 system, not the date a TM30 is filed
Tony ********
@Tod ********
the online pretty sure does more than that now, the AI as part of the new systems link can return a Boolean (true or false), to identify if the TM30 is still valid, 'you have been registered since your arrival in country. Whether a manual checker refuses or accepts the TM47 if they see a permanent addressed tm30 is where variation in results come in.
Tod *********
Yep, people have reported getting that rejection reason now after they've returned from abroad and went to file a 90 day report . 😕
Arthur *****
@Tod ********
if by post, would it get rejected too? If so, what an inconvenience.
Tod *********
@Arthur ****
not all offices accept 90 day report by mail and the ones that do usually say the letter has to be postmarked 2 weeks before the due date 😮

Kinda makes it hard to applying online, wait for the rejection and then apply by post.

By post you're mailing in a filled out TM47, copies of your entry stamp, extension, data page of your passport, your last 90 day report receipt etc. That's just like doing it in person 🙂

20th May I’ve got my 90DR I’ve not been abroad yet in this EofS so see what happens to mine. I’ll report back

this all came about since they did the most recent 'upgrade' to the system

Yes I know update a IMO software and crash bang wallop. It’s the usual

I know people who do that. It doesn't seem to be a major transgression in Thailand, and they tell me they only get fined once. So they miss, say three, through the year and still only get the 2000 baht fine. Not the way I'd be comfortable with but it seems to work
