Do 90-day reporting dates in Thailand restart after extending a visa?

A few responses to another post raised questions for me. I did my first extension of my O-A in late December. They left my old form in the passport showing my next 90 day report. I thought that odd since I'd extended and assumed the 90 day clock started again. Now I'm thinking the 90 day reporting dates are unrelated to the extension. Is that true? It makes sense the more I think about it. I think my next date is later this month (Jan). So I should stick with that as opposed to computing 90 days from my extension date?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 90-day reporting requirement in Thailand is generally independent of visa extension dates. Once you have extended your visa, the 90-day reporting continues based on the original reporting date, unless you leave and re-enter the country. Some immigration offices might reset the 90-day reporting after the first extension, but this is not consistent across all offices. It is advisable to follow the reporting date on your last slip and confirm any specific rules with your local immigration office to avoid penalties.

I'm going to shut this down since this post is starting to go off topic.

A 90 day report is submitted every 90 days (Between 14 days prior to 7 days after) a person is in Thailand. If you are concerned about the rules, and when you should file your 90 day report, GO to your local immigration office and ask them.

Good luck.

They use to do a new 90 day when I did my extension but now they changed that and the 90 day reporting does not reset when doing an extension

4 x 90 days = 360 days. 1 standard year = 365 days.

Totally unrelated to each other.

It would be much easier on Immigration and us if it was 3 month notification but not so... 90 days.

Some immigration offices reset your 90days count on your application for extension (very first, second, or later) and give you a slip of your next 90days report due. Some other immigration offices continue the counting if you already did 90 days report. In this case they may give you a slip or they may not. Follow your immigration office's direction.

In my case the 90 day report just carries on from the last 90 days (done online) having just extended my first retirement extension two weeks prior to my next 90 day report

Totally separate from your extension. 90 day reports are dictated by length of time in the country. The only thing that resets them is leaving and re-entering the country

Generally 90 days is 90 days, nothing to do with any other reporting you may have to do.

Check with your local office.

It's a separate thing indeed. But......

In Korat immigration they already 4 times tear out the old one and put a new one in counting 90 days from the date I arranged the extension. So that's nice over there.

The very first extension only counts as 90 days reporting date, so it should restart. From then on it runs independently from extension and only restarts should you leave and re-enter the country. But perhaps you had already some "under consideration" or other type of temporary extension. Or they just did not take it out. Play safe and do the reporting as stated on the last slip. In worst case they tell you to come back later. Otherwise you risk to pay 2000B penalty. Can all be done online in 10 mins.

You can do so 15 days in advance and up to 7 days later.

Nothing "under consideration" or anything unusual. They did not take out the old form and said nothing about next 90 day reporting date. And I simply didn't think to ask. No worries. I live very close to my office so easy to stroll in and ask early or simply go on or near the date in the old form and they'll let me know one way or the other.
