ORIGINAL POSTER
I Was to do a 1 year extension on my non immigrant O visa next week. But just noticed that my passport expires in 5.5 months time.

Is it a must to have 6 months validity on a passport to do a 1 year extension?

If so any work around without me having to go back to the UK?

I will be applying at Chiang Mai Immigration

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the requirement of having a 6-month valid passport to obtain a 1-year extension on their non-immigrant O visa in Thailand. Comments indicate that if the passport expires in less than 6 months, the extension will only be granted up to the passport's expiration date. Therefore, it's suggested to apply for a new passport in Thailand before the current passport's validity runs out to secure a longer extension.

You won't get a 1 year extension, you will get one for the validity of your passport. I'd get that, apply for a new passport inside Thailand then once your 5.5 months is running out get a 1 year extension

So you cannot transfer the visa to a new passport, but have to apply for a new one-year extension once you have the new passport?

@Alex ******
it's not a question of transferring, they just won't give you an extension beyond the expiry date of your passport. If you get a new passport you can transfer the 5 months extension to it. Just take both passports and the embassy letter to immigration and they'll do it for you

If you apply you will be issued an extension up to the date of your Passport expiry.
